Banned List & Rules / Sideboarding
05-10-2012, 12:19:22 PM
The discussion in another thread got me thinking about how we might be able to improve the format. What is the current reasoning for not allowing sideboarding?

Banned List & Rules / New bannings I / 2012

So with the new bannings, we're just gonna leave control neutered and useless and let aggro run rampant?

Banned List & Rules / Season's Beatings

This card isn't banned according to the current rules. How come? Shouldn't it be like Evil Presents, Gifts Given and Fruitcake Elemental are?

I've recently been playing a fourcolored aggro deck that attempts to establish a tremendous tempo advantage and finish with burn. It works decently. However it does have issues, that can be opponent playing creatures like Kitchen Finks, lands like maze of ith or simply just colorscrewing early.

Creatures and other beats:
Savannah Lions
Goblin Bushwhacker
Elite Vanguard
Isamaru, Hound of Konda
Jungle Lion
Figure of Destiny
Tattermunge Maniac
Loam Lion
Wild Nacatl
Skyshroud Elite
Kird Ape
Goblin Guide
Tidehollow Sculler
Skyshroud War Beast
Scab-Clan Mauler
Watchwolf
Keldon Marauder
Hellspark Elemental
Putrid Leech
Bitterblossom
Tarmogoyf
Stoneforge Mystic
Qasali Pridemage
Boggart Ram-Gang
Kitchen Finks
Aven Mindcensor
Burning-Tree Shaman
Troll Ascetic
Woolly Thoctar
Stonecloaker
Anathemancer
Doran, the Siege Tower
Bloodbraid Elf

Burn and other stuff:
Lightning Bolt
Reckless Abandon
Chain Lightning
Price of Progress
Volcanic Hammer
Lightning Helix
Magma Jet
Flame Rift
Incinerate
Fire Ambush
Char
Blightning
Sulfuric Vortex
Flames of the Blood Hand
Fireblast
Profane Command

Boost:
Bonesplitter
Rites of Initiation
Rancor
Berserk
Vines of Vastwood
Lightning Greaves
Colossal Might
Sword of Light and Shadow
Loxodon Warhammer
Sword of Fire and Ice

Mixed pile:
Æther Vial
Swords to Plowshares
Path to Exile
Demonic Tutor
Armageddon

Them lands:
Plateau
Reflecting Pool
Overgrown Tomb
Bayou
Raging Ravine
Wooded Foothills
Savannah
Windswept Heath
Bloodcrypt
Temple Garden
Bloodstained Mire
Stirring Wildwood
Badlands
Verdant Catacombs
Arid Mesa
Taiga
Stomping Grounds
Marsh Flats
Sacred Foundry
Scrubland
Godless Shrine
Treetop Village
3 Forest
3 Swamp
4 Mountain
3 Plains

I'm considering cutting black and keep it to white, red and green and thus reduce the colorscrew. I'm going to need replacements for Tidehollow Sculler, Putrid Leech, Bitterblossom, Anathemancer, Doran, the Siege Tower, Blightning, Profane Command and Demonic Tutor and could use some suggestions :)

Deck Lists / 5C The god-emperor of Mardas
30-03-2010, 11:59:45 AM
Lo and behold! Your new master, the true god-emperor of Madara!

Now that we got the formalities out of the way... (This is just an introduction, if you don't feel like reading it, just scroll down to the deck list)

I started building on a "Bolas" deck a while ago. The idea was simple. I had Nicol Bolas, I had to play him. I decided in spirit of Nicol Bolas, that I had no need for puny creatures in battle. Real men use planeswalkers! The original design was BRWU, due to the heavy amount of efficient removal in white. I know Nicol Bolas is UBR, but lets face it, a 25000 year old planeswalker has been around the block and given the nature of Nicol Bolas, he probably somehow influenced or dominated something or someone that gave him access to white mana. He probably also realized that it would be wrong to ignore entire aspects of magic and thus I have an excuse for including white :D. I changed it into 5C because I traded for a foil violent ultimatum and a foil lavalanche, though these cards have since been cut, green was kept in the deck because of regrowth effects and other nice spells.

The deck functioned decently as a semicasual but was deassembled because I wanted to try other decks. I reconstructed the deck recently due to a small tournament but it had far too few lands and the results were not pretty... It has since been trimmed and tweaked alot and it's a blast to play! Without further ado, behold the creation!

Lands (39):
Volcanic Island
Badlands
Tropical Island
Bayou
Scrubland
Plateau
Taiga
Savannah
Tundra
Underground Sea
Flooded Strand
Misty Rainforest
Marsh Flats

8CC
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker

The deck has some expensive spells, but only a total of 13 has a CC higher than 4. The tactic is basicly sweep, remove and count until I can stick a planeswalker to the board. There's alot of reanimate/combo/midrange in our meta, so I've focused on countersspells and removal that exile or provides card advantage or limits the opponents tempo advantage. There's a minor amount of burn because it doubles as removal and wincondition. When it comes to tournaments, Identity Crisis will probably be switched out with Mind Twist. This deck is always the control deck, no matter which matchup :)

I'm considering the following cards for the deck:
Moat
Pernicous Deed
Engineered Explosives
The new Jace

Constructive criticism welcome!

-Kristian, fanboy of Bolas!

PS. this is my Bolas ;):

I am looking for suggestions for improving the deck. I'd love to hear new ideas/cards and reasons for using them!

There can only be one!
