sorry for my inactivity (but i'm currently changing my job, we are moving house, I'm trying to finish my phd...)

just a few thoughts to the problems mentioned:
- a lot of relevant points were mentioned (age of the players, familiy, jobs,...) and I don't have to repeat this
- most of the old-school players who (still) love the format are no longer thrilled by it. Because we have seen it all. Although there are enough decks to play (just watch Tabris column), there will be nothing really new.
- The Banned-List is nearly perfect and minor changes will not lead to any invention.
- New sets aggravate the problems we have, because only the pricy cards and the broken creatures will find a place in your decks. Old pet-cards are unplayable
- There are too much staples, so you have the feeling although you are playing different decks, you are playing always the same cards...

I think the only way out of this is to expand the minimun deck size to 200 or 250 cards. Although I thought in the passed it would be wrong to do this, I'm now convinced this is the only way out of our problems. More cards just solve a lot of problems (yeah, I know that shuffling and searching is a new problem!!!).

Just think of the manabase and fetchland discussion, just think about cards you can reactivate, just think about deck building, just think about the game situation we will face...

Just think about it!

In the last two seasons (which are the only ones I played) I recognized that there are always some players who join the league in the beginning but then stop playing. Now if these players only play one or two matches before they quit, their opponents have a huge advantage since they get to play more matches than everyone else.

My suggestion is that at the end of the season only those matches are included in the calculation, where each player played at least 1/3 of their possible matches (the threshold is of course debatable). This should ensure that the best of the active players wins, while also holding the league open for everyone. For special awards like "most matches outside Top 3" this threshold could be left out (which is also debatable).

my short summary with 4c-good stuff (no red): 3 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw

round 1: win against red/blue control 2-0

round 2: win against 4c-good stuff (no black) with heavy loam engine 2-0

round 3: loss against mono U (decklist Top 8, Alexander Thomas): 1st game his start was: City of Traitors, Grim Monolith, Gilded Lotus, Senseis Diving Top, Future Sight, more mana, Sundering Titan!!! It wasn't over immeaditely, but the power of this start was to much in the long run. 2nd Game I had multiple Vindicates and Qasali Pridemage. 3rd Game his Strat was Workshop, Crucible of Worlds, Wasteland... I lost two lands against the Wasteland, fetched then basic Forest and Plains and my only chance to get a basic swamp via demonic tutor was countered by mana drain 1-2

round 4: loss against WW. First game lost against one drop, two drop, spectral possesion, crusade and winter orb. Second Game easy win with Swor of Fire and Ice and a lot of good creatures. Third game lost against a lot of creatures featuring Basilisk Collar, Sword of Feast and Famine and Sword of War and Peace while I was a little screwed 1-2

round 5: draw against 5c-Oath-Good Stuff. 1st game. I had an turn Bitterblossom which he answered with oath. I lost the game against multiple wurmcoil engines. 2nd game I had all answers but it took a long time to win finally. Last game I could start the race but he had an early abyss which slowed me to much 1-1-1

round 6: win against 4c good stuff (no red) 2-0

round 7. loss against 4c good stuff (no black) it was an even match but in the final game i just drew the mana accelaeration and no business 1-2

conclusio: the deck was really fine but all the mirror matches are exhausting and your opponets have mostly the same cards, so everybody is able to win. One bad draw and the match is lost 8game 7). The other losses were somehow okay, because everybody knows how you can lose against WW and this is the way it happened. And the starts of the monoU deck were just too powerfull.

Thx for the decklist goes out to Syras!

georg (ww) - malz77 (rdw)

1st game: he starts with mother of runes, I answer with goblin guide and an attack (he shows ranger of eos). 2nd turn Loyal Cathar for him and Sudden Shock for the mother. Ge goes on with Sigiled Paladin and starts the Race with the grown Cathar. Stagger Shock for the Paldin, Knight of the White Orchid follows. Stagger shock for the Cathar and Koth for the rerace. More Dudes for him and a kicked Breath of Daraigaaz cleared the bord except for Knight of the holy Nimbus. Keldon Champion and Cursed Scroll and a little burn were better then Ranger of Eos and his fellows + Kor Firewalker. Cursed Scroll = MVP

2nd Game: I can't win against turn 2 Kor Firewalker + SoFI and mother and and and and

3rd Game: Scorched Rusalka featuring Sword to Plowshares as first action. He has Crusade while I have Zo-Zu the Punisher. I can kill his Elite vanguard  via Fire Ambush and had Smash to Smithereens for Porcelain Legionnaire. Keldon Marauders and Flames of the Blood Hand were faster than his SoFI on the Monk.

ChristophO (Perfect Storm) vs Malz77 (Bant)

Game 1: First action was Stifle on his fetchland followed up by an early Qasali Pridemage and Gaddock Teeg. After some points of damage Pridemage took out an ManaArtifact. Thrun and Gaddock Teeg made the dirty job, since his Firespout killed everything but Thrun. Then he comboed and had Tendrils for 16 damage while I was on 15. But then we figured out that in the very long combo turn two land entered the table, so it was 1-0 for me

Game 2: Via Eternal Witness I had double Wasteland for the Invasion 2 Mana Lands, and Wickerbough Elder for an Mana Artifact. With only 2 Lands left, an Odyssey Egg and Senseis Diving Top he mangaged to kill me via Helm of Awakeining, multiple Rituals, Yawgmoths Will and Tendrils. 1-1

Game 3: His Inquisiton of Kozilek took my Scavening Ooze and I had Daze, Stifle, Creatures and Land left. Daze countered Mana Artifact and started to bash him with Wilt Leaf Cavaliers for 4 because of Noble Hierarch. He tutored with Grim Tutor and Oath of Druids came down. In my last combat I could kill him exactly with Mish. Factory, Cavaliers and Stirring Wildwood but he had one Red Mana open and I was afraid of Lightning Bolt which could be a decent include in perfect Storm. So I just attacked with Cavalliers and had the mana open to Stifle his oath trigger. In his upkeep he had mana drain for Stifle and milled his hole Bib but now short on mana. Memorys Journey put back Dark Ritual and Manamorphose. Now he had a fifty fifty chance to win if he would drew the Manamorphose... but Dark Ritual was the draw. 2-1 for me

Great and exciting games!

17: Intrance (Boros) vs malz77 (RDW) 0 - 2

Game 1: He's screwed on one land. I killed his Sav. Lion and his Isamaru and attacked with Chandra's Phoenix, Spark Elemental and Slith Firewalker....
Game 2: No hand for him after spoils mulligan, so down to six. He had Cloistered Youth which hit me several times, I had RamGang for the counter attacks. Forked Bolt killed his Porc. Legionaire and Flame Javellin the transformed Youth. Teetering Peaks and Hellspark Elemental for some more damage and he had nothing left but three additional lands on his hand.

not really ggs  ;)

LarsL (UBW_Control) vs Malz77 (Angry Hermit) (1:2)

1st Game: I go first. Combo (Hermit) in Turn three with counter backup (he had pact of negation as well but could not pay  ;))

2nd game: He locked me with two Shackles (one copied it with metamorph), maze, counters and removal... I really had no chance in this game because I wasn't able to find the combo fast enough

3rd game: I failed with gamble to win on turn 3 (discarded my illusionist) but could later reanimate it again and had orims chant for the win with illustonist en'cor combo. Lars had a bad hand with no counters.
