An interesting concept, something which I will put together and test some day. I see some questionable points though: How does this deck handle mass removal as the deck seems to fail after that?

I've been toying with a similar idea to use the old standard powerhouse, Opposition thus leaning the build more towards blue. I remember SquirrelOpposition to be one serious contender on its heydays. Adding more lock elements, like Static Orb (http://www.wizards.com/magic/displaythemedeck.asp?set=worldchampionshipdecks2001&decknum=2&lang=en). The deck could take more out of the tokens by adding synergetic cards, like Tradewind Rider.

I did a little research regarding to this 'tokenmania' and it seems "Fips" has been piloted it quite well: http://www.magicplayer.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1489

Quote from: VazdruBtw. Fips hat beim 5. GP 5-2 mit demselben Deck gespielt.

Still, without the way to deal with mass sweep, I don't see how this would become a serious contender (So would love to see Fips build as well).

The deck recovers quite well even against mass removal like Wrath of God or Damnation especially if you have Spawning Pit, Fecundity and/or Goblin Bombardement.

Fips played 4-1-2 in 3rd GP and 5-2-0 in 5th so altogether 9-3-2 - not too bad.

Every kind of Aggro Deck is a 80%+ MU, I've played with my uw-skies 1-3 vs his Tokenmania. The problem for him was combo (the only loss in 3rd gp) or Enchantments like Moat, Coll. Restraint or Deed and of course The Tabernacle.

well, i´ve played against this deck quite a couple of times. and mass removal isnt that bad... token producing lands are annyoing and effective against WOG, damantion and the likes... specially if he has some kind of creature pump (mirari wake, coat of arms, etc..) on the other hand tabernacle, moat and collective work quite well against this deck, but u better watch out for aura shards...

Tournament Results, Frankfurt 29.12.

The decklists of the top players you'll find here: http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=169.msg1395#new

My Matches with Tokenmania:

1. UG-Survival feat. LoA - 2:0 I've won twice because of an early Survival
2. UW-Aggro-Control (1st placed Player)  - 0:1 Almost won this game but Parallax Tide + Bounce twice ripped off my lands - it was the only game I've lost with an active Survival, unfortunately he had Stonecloaker :/
3. UW-Skies (my Build! - he got it from his friend via ICQ) - 1:2 Usually a quite good Match-Up for my Tokenmania BUT One game i was land-screwed rather Winter Orbed and one game I've lost to an equipped Soltari Priest after Sharpshooter + Murderous Redcap killed his whole board of Vendillion Clique, Flying Men + Curiosity, Lantern Kami + Mother of Runes - i had leathal spell on the stack in game 3 and he was tapped out but he Forced of Will it and won next turn.
4. RDW-Gobbos - 1:2 Usually a good Match-Up for me. I've lost first match with Bitterblossom + Dark Confidant turn 2 and 3 (too greedy, maybe Confidant isn't that good in a deck like this). Second game i've won with 5 tokens + Overrun. Third game he would have been dead next turn, had no cards in hand and me on LP 4. He told me he would still have some options to win this game and faced up his top card of his library ..... Pulse of the Forge!

GGs - if i had the luck on my side i would have definately won more matches - but this way it was quite frustrating.

ps. A friend of mine played Barren-Glory-Combo-Deck-WB and reached place 5! (3-1, only defeat vs RDW)
pps. My limited pool was great with Broodmate Dragon, Sarkhan Vol, Oblivion Ring, great G-Fatties but like everyone of us knows u still need some luck which i didn't had
ppps. At least I've won the final Draft - a format i do not know anything about - unbelievable

Yeah, that caught my attention too. Probably runs a lot of tutors + things like zuran orb, greater gargandon, claws of gix, etc. But quite, different to say the least.

Vazdru can you tells anything more? deck list would be cool, or colors, key cards.

QuoteDark Confidant turn 2 and 3 (too greedy, maybe Confidant isn't that good in a deck like this
Dark Confidant is good but you play a large pool of different CMC... things like derange hermit + siege gang is pretty though. 5 lfp in a single shot, specially against aggro.

yeap, even though the forum isnt that busy (specially without a league running), it´s great to see that.

Didnt recall that one, BBB means it´s heavy on black. WB deck probably, perhaps some splashes? kaervek's spite puts the opponent on a very, very tight clock :P

BTW: congrats on winning the draft ;)

Yeah, looks decent. Some cards I don't like are Mox Diamond (low land count), Phyrexian Plaguelord (doesn't do enough for its high cost), Arc Slogger (doesn't fit to theme :P ), Skullmulcher (at least when I tried this I never wanted to eat anything).
Also Natural Order seems a bit sad without any bombs except Mycoloth. You could try to fit in some kind of reanimation/natural order engine with some beef.
I'd also fit in Genesis and Volrath's Stronghold somehow since most of the time you will be tutoring for Survival for Witness for Genesis for something probably.
Also Moggcatcher, Imperial Recruiter, Goblin Matron and Earthcraft are pretty good but I don't know if there are room for all of them.

Oh yeah and mad tech would be Helm of Possession!

I agree with so_not's card dislikes. Personally I don't like Phyrexian Arena either.
Anyway, cool deck. You could try Life/Death in the deck?

Skullmulcher and Arena have been nice, but I could shave on expensive creatures to bring down curve. I had Regal Force as a tutor target, but realized then it only gives cards for green creatures. Maybe something else juicy enough, suggestions welcome. Genesis and Stronghold should give the deck some late game, I'm just wary on adding colourless lands. Helm of Possession is truly meh, but I'd rather add some one-shot capture effects like Grab the Reins. Imperial Recruiter I had forgot, it's a definite addition.
Title: Token deck
Post by: markers on 30-07-2009, 02:43:55 PM
I am thinking about building a Highlander deck where the opponent is swarmed with tokens.

The deck I am currently compiling is B/G/R

Token producers:

- Dragon Broodmother
- Mycoloth
- Goblin Assault
- Bitterblossom
- B/G-Liege
- Ant Queen
- Weirding Shaman
- Sprout Swarm
- Siege Gang Commander
- Rakka Mar
- Rhys the Redeemed
- Necrogenesis
- Giant Baiting

Alternative win options:

- Last Ditch effort
- Hissing Iguanar
- Goblin Bombardment

Support:

- Sarkhan Vol
- Garruk Wildspeaker
- Overrun
- Demonic Tutor
- Doubling Season
- Junt Charm
- Giant Growth
- Lightning Bolt
- Incinerate
- Banefire
- Thoughtseize
- Dark Banishing
- Doom Blade
- Putrefy
- Smother
- Birds of Paradise
- Llanowar Elves
- Naturalize
- Volcanic Fallout

Any thoughts?

Title: Re: Token deck
Post by: grizzledmage on 30-07-2009, 04:08:20 PM
If you're planning on flooding the board (sorry, I mean battlefield) then maybe Gaea's Anthem to suddenly double the amount of damage the tokens can do.

Volcanic Fallout is high-leverage; sure it can clear things out if they're not going your way but if they are then it's simply a dead card. (On the other hand, I include WoG in my WW deck, so I understand where you're coming from  ;)) Also , if you want board sweepers, maybe Damnation

Other token producers you might consider are Imperious Perfect, Deranged Hermit, Squirrel Nest, Thelonite Hermit. Scatter the Seeds might be useful (with Convoke)

Artifact/enchantment hate is good; I like Krosan Grip better than Naturalize.

Sensei's Divining Top helps any deck smooth out draws.

Mana artifacts (if you're in 3 colors) can help; maybe Darksteel Ingot, maybe Obelisk of Jund, maybe Coldsteel Heart.

Might consider also graveyard hate (can be very crucial in HL); things like Relic of Progenitus; Shred Memory (since you're in black) can also tutor for 2CC spells. I happen to like Withered Wretch but I think others here will disagree with that  ::).

Depending on your lands, Life from the Loam could be useful (coupled with the new Gargoyle Castle, for instance, although the Castle might be too slow).

And one idea that can work well in a deck like this, depending on how high-leverage you really want to go: Biorhythm!

Anyway, just some thoughts off the top of my head. Post a decklist (incl. lands) when you can!

This is the deck I am currently trying to get working...It's a BGR-Version of a Token-Deck. I studied your versions running GRW but I think that Black is a bit better in supporting the deck while White's token producers (Outpost / Vitu-Ghazi / Ravnica creatures) are not really needed...In terms of removal I consider both colors equal.

Found some very interesting cards in this thread (Thanks a lot!).

There are some cards I am not completely sure about yet...

Well i think black is for tokens worse than white. Cards like Promise of Bunrei, Rith`s Charm are better than any black cards.

Giant Baiting- The token is only one turn there, so this is a straight aggro card.
Goblin Assault- You had to shoot the way clear for this, can you really rely on this.(I like this card but a useful use is very difficult)
Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician- You don`t want to sacrifize mountains into goblins, and when you need the 4damage abiltiy                                                                                he will be shooted down.
Last Ditch effort- You cant sacrifice 20 tokens and achieve victory over this card, even a attack with all creatures and use this card after combat is not useful. You had to wait to long for the right moment with this card so it is better to  not play it.
Animate Dead- There hasd to be big creature already in grave to use this card right. So this is not a useful idea.
Reanimate- The same here but you loose also life.
Skullmulcher- He is 3/3 for 5 and draws 3 or 3 cards but then you have nothing more. He is useless.
Violent Outburst- You cant overrun the opponent with +1/+0 so you only have another random spell. Better Bloodbraid Elf.
Xanthrid Demon.- Very expensive.

I tested Naya tokens and I think it is far better.

As said...I think I have enough producers. I better concentrate removal, reanimation and tutors.

With the siege gang, the Bombardment, the Warden and my MVP (Iguanar) it's not bad. even good

Could be...I'll have to test him...Maybe add a Marshal?

I really like it. The perfect answer to a opponent's wrath of god or you have the enemy down to 7 life and sac the necessary amount of creatures...Again here: If the Hissing Iguanar is out it's 2 damage per critter

Reanimating the Iguanar, the Mycoloth, the broodmother, the ant queen or even the siege Gang Commander IS great  ;)

3 cards for 3 token is a good deal...If the Iganuar is out it's 3 damage as well.

With loads of token out this card is good. Running into a removal, a tutor or a reanimation spell for free is certainly not bad. And hitting a Mana Elf is not bad either.

I know...But it's free damage and a good 6cc creature. I am thinking about replacing him with Deathbringer Thoctar

Not sure...With the drop of the Enlightened Tutor (banned) I doubt it...The tutors are so helpful.

I played Naya and Jund Tokens quite a lot and I think Piledriver is right - Naya is stronger.

Your deck looks a bit unfocussed to me with too many CC4+ spells. Have a look at "the real" build of Fips who did a great performance at GPs and regional tournaments almost everytime he took part. Cards like Doubling Season, Broodmother, Xathrid Demon and Skullmulcher are weaker by far than Coat of Arms, Derranged Hermit, Kamahl the Fist of Krosa or Primal Command.

There is missing some mana boost as well: Devoted Druid, Wall of Roots, Roffelos, Sakura-Tribe Elder.

Things like Grafted Wargear do not support the deck-theme in any way.

Title: Goblin Bushwhacker

What's the opinion about 'Goblin Bushwhacker' - playable?

Goblin Bushwhacker is a aggro card. Either you play it first turn or in turn 2 or 3 for 2 mana as 2/1 haste creature(He also gives your aggro creatures +1/+0).
In a Token deck you play midrange. You play manaaccelaration Tokenmaker strong creatures and then cards like overrun to win.
And Goblin Bushwacker is neither strong nor overrun. He also costs 2 red Mana which is very hard for a deck with lots of green elements.

So he is not playable in Naya-token or Jund-token. He is better in Goblin-RDW(but i don't play him).
Title: [search] new Tokenmania list

Hi everybody,
i´m looking for a new list of Tokenmania (Naya Version), but I only found this old topic http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=112.0 (http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=112.0)
Is there a new list with Elspeth Tirel and the other new "good stuff"?
