B) Pairings (week 1)
8. NLG_playr vs. Zimagic
Please report the results till 071111 here: http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=53.0
Please try to play AT LEAST one game during the next week.
What you will do? You have a few options mentioned beneath.
A) You'll play the match vs each other during the next week.
B) Both of you want to play your match but can't find a common date during the next week. Then you get an additional week till the deadline for this match ends.
C) You want to stay in the league but won't play this match. That counts as loss for both players.
D) You don't want to stay in the league so you drop.
E) You do not say anything = drop.
Both get this info via ICQ.
Hi Guys,
First of all appologies for the absense. I've been very caught up with life and not here very much. My wife, who has been logging on, has said that you have been trying to contact me for a while.
I'll be online from tonight again and will try to get a match in tonight and tomorrow.
Apologies for the delays/non-contact/inconvenience.

Thx for your quick reply !
Away from Thursday till Sunday - so there won't be any Updates Pairings/Ranking till next Monday.
NLG_playr has left the league.
New pairings won't be up before next Wednesday. Then you'll find the actual standings.
There won't be any new pairings before at least 2 existing pairings were played or another player drops.
Whistler has left the league.
What's wrong with Zimagic and Fussballpunk?
There will be new pairings this weekend.
:S
i dont know.. i´ve tried to contact them, but no luck... fuss at one point talked to me in ICQ and said he was very busy...
Fussballpunk joined the league 071014. He haven't played any games since that time, no comment has been posted.
Last time I've spoken to Zimagic he has said to me he wants to drop cause that would make things easier for us (active player).
Both player have left the league.
Season I is over now.
36 matches / 89 games have been played during the last 12 weeks.
And we have a winner:
STURMGOTT with an awesome record of 9-1 matches and 18-6 games !!
A more or less symbolic price of 2 Booster Planar Chaos goes out to Sturmgott.
Congratulations !
On the following places: Guardian (2nd) and Vazdru (3rd)
Wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a great year 2008.
Cya next year.
Congrats to the winner and to the rest of the league players.
Lets hope there will more of the league and with more participants
Have a great rest of 2007' days.
There will be some changes for HLL Season II
- prizes:
more than 50 matches have been played during the season: 4 Boosters for the winner / 2 Boosters for second place
40-50 matches: 3 Boosters for the winner
less than 40 matches: 2 Boosters for the winner
- pairings:
no deadline of 6 weeks to post results anymore
if anyone is unable to play any games for a period of 3 weeks or more he/she has to post the reason for on the board - otherwise he/she will be dropped automatically
- beginning:
season starts if we have at least 10 participants
- scoreboard:
please mention at least result and decks which have been used
a short summary -like some player already have posted during season I- would be nice
Any further ideas?
i think that ppl shouldnt be able to switch decks.. they can make changes to the deck, but they shouldnt be able to swtich from a control deck to a RDW (for e.g.)
this is my opinion.

it´s mainly because i think there is an advantage for ppl who play agains not-changing (deck) opponents.. they can tune/switch their deck to their opponent´s deck. and even choose their cards with the mulligan rule according to the their opponents.
and also the feeling of playing against the same player with other deck doesnt seem very "leaguish" to me...
just my two cents

I just say: Keep it simple :D We need easy rules!
I don't wanna judge if
a) adding a Splash (e. g. Mono Red -> Rb / Rg / Rw),
b) changing a WGB-Aggro Deck to a WGB Control- or Combo-Deck
c) transforming a Zoo into R/G or RB
..........
is allowed. Looks scary to me ??? (Btw: how many cards mean Splash - so is it allowed to change a Rb into Br)?
There are two alternatives.
Option 1: One Deck for whole season
Problem: You can't add or remove any cards (including new sets)
Option 2: You do not have any restrictions during a season for deck-building.
= Actual ruling
I definitely prefer option 2 but i will change it if the majority wants it.
you know my opinion... ;)
i was thinking of a number of cards per week, for example 10 cards per week. but this is hard to control..
let the opinions roll.. if there are none, i think we should stay with the old rule to avoid problems
I won't be able to play any [HLL]Games before this Thursday...busy season for an auditor :-\.
i´ve been busy too and off msn/forum...
but i´ll be able to play on this weekend and after that i think i´ll be back to my normal routine...

Season II is over now.
39 matches / 94 games have been played during the last weeks.
And we have a winner:
MErcator with an awesome record of 10:2 matches and 21:11 games !!
A symbolic price of 2 Booster-Packs is on its way to the winner.
Congratulations !
congrats Mercator :)
i almost made it to first place :P
lookinf forward to another (with a little more ppl) league.
Yeah, I also enjoyed this league as it served as an excellent platform to test various decks, looking forward to another one. And congratulations to MErcator!
Thx. Good to know that the league making fun at least for a small group of people.
I've got 5 Booster Packs for my last article about the 4th HL GP recently -> so there will be another season.
We can start, if we'll find 10 participants for it. The price support will be better than before.
I donate 4 Boosters packs for the winner of the 3rd Season.
I'll have to discuss some organizational points with Sturmgott first, then i'll open a Registration-Thread for season III.
lets hope the III league will have the minimum of 10 people (lets see, if the forum members participate a little more) because it aint just fun playing with 5/6 ppl.
btw, thks Vazdru for the donation :D

welcome aboard, cron
I will play this season too. I hope I can make every match this time. But if you ask me via ICQ, I will play with you. The only thing that I dont like is that the Forum is so unclear.
As the part of the forum with most activity, it should get an own section.
@georgB:
if you look at the home page of the forum, you need only 1 click to get to this area. simply click on the HL league on the "child boards" of the tournament :)
i dont think is that unclear, perhaps for new members, but for ppl who have been here a couple of times, is not that hard.. just my opinion, but we can ask the admin to change it, if possible.

may i give an opinion? how about dividing the prize for the 2/3 first places, this will make the league more competitive, as (i noticed this on II league) a lot of ppl stopping playing in the league after a couple of defeats, perhaps due to the fact that they knew the wouldnt finish in 1st place,. this way even if the 1st place seems like a stretch there is always the 2nd place.
i know players here shouldnt be playing for the prize (i know, i´m not), but perhaps this way we wont have that many unplayed matches.
p.s i dont mind pitching in with some money/card/booster.
I don't know if we get mor participants if we have more prices. But i would easily donate my 2 boosters from last season lets say for 2nd place.
If we really hope to have a few more players his season i'm in with mythrandir that there should be prices for 2nd perhaps 3rd place
i wish us all fun (and time) for next season...

i think its not a matter of having more ppl, but i think if there were prizes for 2nd and 3rd the league would be more "competitive" and probably the outcome of the top3 more opened..

Thx guys for your proposals and offers. I think both of you are right, but the contenders of that league gain another -intangible- profit (beside of course the fun of playing the game). Let's have a look on the stats of the last GP - although noone reached the Top every participant of Seaon II are in the top of the field:
Vazdru 16
MErcator 21
Georg B 22
Payron 25
Sturmgott 32
The Problem is, do 1 Booster for second or third place really makes a difference?
Anyway i'll change the arrangement of the price as follows:
First Place -
3 Boosters1 Booster for second place and 1 Booster for third place, if we have at least 50 matches during season 3
If anyone wants to add something in the price pool - feel free! It's not my but OUR league :) E. g. if MErcator wanna add 2 Booster for second place, it will be like this:
4 Booster for the winner (by Vazdru), 2 Booster for second (by MErcator), 1 Booster for third (by Vazdru).
Hmm... I have to say that I play the league manly to test some deckideas or to get an impression how good a deck is.
I never really tried to get to the top (I mean otherwise I would not have played the 4c ZuiZoo.deck ;) ).
And it makes no differences to me if there are boosters I can win.
I resolved to take more focus on the league. But that has nothing to do with booster prices.

like you, i play in the league(s) (I and II) just for the fun of playing this format in a more compettive way, however the two leagues we played had some problems with attendacy or players dropping out of the league, leaving it less competitive and more repetitive. so my idea, was to prevent this.
however the 2nd and 3rd prizes are just an idea..
New pairings won't be announced before next Tuesday.
Every participant of Season III should have at least ONE match OR ONE posting before end of week 3.

20 games have been played already.
It's quite close on the top this time. Everybody still has the chance to reach a top place. Skies seems to be Tier I already; Georg B played 3-1 with UR Skies and me 3-1 with UW Skies. The format seems balanced, unaffected by the recent bannings. Noone managed to leave undefeated.
Guys to beat in the moment: MErcator(WWu?), Georg B (UR-Skies), Pyyhttu (Surprise?!) and me (UW-Skies).
Mythrandir (5C-Control) had a strong comeback and Payron is still some kind of "insider tip" ;D

Hello,
I hope to have enough time to play season 3 ;D
Hmm, meanwhile i don't think so.
No I'm not a lazy student (anymore :-\ ;)) Meanwhile I'm working 45-50 hours a week + I am a young family man with a 3-month old son ...and even I've managed it to play some matches already. Time is quite valueable for me, I don't wanna waste it - I organize this league for players who like playing Magic and not for "nominal members".
Sorry! - i can't believe that someone who
wanna play a match or two within 6 weeks doesn't find the time to. So the question is, if you wanna play or not?
I wouldn't say a word cause i know you're a nice guy - but
no matches at all is too little.
There will be a time schedule now for the rest of the season:Every participant must have
at least 3 matches till 10th of August.
Every participant must have
at least 6 matches till 17th of August.
Every participant must have
at least 9 matches till 24th of August.
If anyone do not reach the benchmark he will be excluded.
Season ends 31st of August!

Ranking + Parings will be updated tonight.
Season III is over now.
41 matches / 106 games have been played during the last weeks. This is a new record but less than i hoped.
And we have a winner:
Vazdru with a record of 10:2 matches and 21:11 games !! Exactly the same record as MErcator after season II.
MErcator maybe would have won again if he had the chance to play his last match vs Payron. His record after 11 matches 9:2 and the better tiebreaker 19:8 games.
I've played all my games with White Clouded Skies. The two matches I've lost were against Georg B with UR-Skies and MErcator with Rb-Gobbos. MErcator lost vs pyyhttu with Staxx and me with UW-Skies.
The first prize (4 Booster for the winner) is put into the prize pool of Season IV.
The second prize (2 Booster for the second place donated by MErcator) goes out to himself.
Season winners:
Season 1: Sturmgott (1st) - Guardian (2nd) - Vazdru (3rd)
Season 2: MErcator (1st) - Mythrandrir (2nd) - Sturmgott (3rd)
Season 3: Vazdru (1st) - MErcator (2nd) - pyyhttu (3rd)
congrats to all players. Specially Vazdru. Skies is definitely not an easy deck to play versus
League-Updates:
Unlike season 1-3 there won't be any "Rematch-Pairings" before week four.
Whenever more than 50% of all sheduled matches are played there will be new pairings.
Just to reminder everybody that Shards of Alara is now legal in the League, so u better patch up! :)
[HLL]Ranking updated
Mythrandir still on the top - but it has become close since he has lost his first match this season vs second placed Payron.
The two guys followed by the last undefeated player (with at least one match) Vazdru.
Mythrandir played all his games with 5CC-Control like in all other seasons before (i've made more than 250! games vs his deck already ;D)
Payron played his games with UGwb-Survival-Lark-Combo :) I played my games like last season with modern style of UW-Skies.
Nastaboi and Thibir are the best "Rookies" we've had for a long time with 50% wins each so far in their first season.
A curious thing is that our best player MErcator (-> just check [HLL]Ladder) is actually on place 10 in season IV. I'm sure this won't be for a long time!
EDIT: Cause > 50% of the matches have been played and we have lots of new members waiting for their first matches ;) there will be the new pairings already tonight! Still no Rematches until week 5.

This can be a little bias, since i´m (temporarily) on 1st place, but this, IMO, is the best league so far. :)
We have a good number of players. All players are making their games which is great. And the 3 top players are neck to neck, so a very competitive league so far.
@Vazdru, we might wanna celebrate our 500th game in a few months :P
Thks and congrats to all players of the league
I rly enjoyed the last games ... and that I can play with such great players on the top and I can learn from them :) ... also i don t want that u call it Revilarke combo ;) ... its just a piece in my build because it perfectly fits in the deck ... but I rly think that I found with survival a deck typ that fits my playstyl and is rly strong ... and y I rly think our league is growing and thats just great ... its perfectly to seriosly test decks !!
The registration for Season IV closes after scheduling pairings no. 6.
Season IV ends December, 14th.
As long we have that many participants in our league there won't be any rematches. Like in a "real" league we will have one match against each other - even if there are more than 12 matches for each player in the end. It's of course the best system cause everyone has equal chances to win the league. But in former leagues we just haven't had the opportunity tp use this system because there weren't enough players.
If a participant drops or is excluded the outdated system will be reintroduced.
Next pairings are probably available tomorrow evening.
Ranking will be updated Wednesday or Thursday.
[HLL]Ranking updated
MErcator had a great comeback (place 10 to 1!) and is now on the top (like I expected and in previous seasons ;D). But it's quite close on the top. He won his matches with WWu and Red.
On second place is Nastaboi! He won 66,67% of his matches and games! His favourite deck seems Heartbeat-Combo.
I'm still on the third place of our ranking. I've played White Clouded Skies like in the last season and GP. UW-Skies has actually the unbelievable record or 6:0 matches and 12:1 games in season IV (Aker123 + me) and is of course the last undefeated deck. Particulary in regard to the great record of MErcator's WWu this color-combination seems to be the strongest Two-Color-Deck available in the moment. I'm looking forward to my match vs Thibir with his UG-Skies-Build.
Payron played his games with UGwb-Survival-Engine. He's still in contact to the first places like Mythrandir too who lost his top position in our league for a while. He played all his games with 5CC-Control like in all other seasons before.

Vazdru and Mercator have impressive records (not only on the IV league, but other leagues as well). UW decks seem really strong. My 5CC is just too unpredictable... to be on the TOP for long times, i keep losing some games (mainly because of the deck inconsistence) to decks that arent my biggest problems.
Heck of a league ;)
I´m glad this one is going so well :D
Keep up the GG´s everybody.
I'm looking forward to find out which build is winning the Skies vs. WWeenie matchup. I think my deck sports a better matchup vs. RDW but the direkt comparison will be interesting.
Have fun.

i dont think with just this league we´re gonna find out, because either deck can have a bad game without having a bad matchup. But, nontheless it will be interesting. looking forward to see UW skies VS Wu wennie
Rating update + new pairings won't be available before Wednesday.
[HLL]Ranking updated
Still quite close on the top of the ranking. It seems the top 4 are sealed!
MErcator is still on the top. His latest deck is some kind of Rock and undefeated yet. He lost two of his eleven matches in season IV vs Thibir (UG-Skies) and Nastaboi (U-Skies) - skies seems to be the right choice when facing the top player of our site.
On second place is me (UW-Skies). Undefeated but a little bit lucky vs Thibir (lost best of 5) and Mythrandir (2times B2B for the win).
On third place is Nastaboi - you can't call him a rookie anymore, he is on the top of our list. His three losses were vs pyyhttu (Time Vault Combo - a bit unfair :o ??? :-\), vs Ludwitch (RDW - btw his single loss with Heartbeat-Combo) and me (U-Skies lost vs UW-Skies)
Payron is forth only because of tie-breaker. He won his game with UGw(b)-Survival-Engine. He lost vs. MErcator (RDW), Thibir (UG-Skies) and me (UW-Skies). Like i've said, skies works well vs. 3(4)-C-Survival-Control :)
Ranking updated (not much has changed, but I've had some minor problems with sum-if or if-sum ??? ::))
New pairings posted and we have some kind of final this time: MErcator vs Vazdru.
If MErcator wins he probably (depends if i win all the rest or not) stays on the top.
If MErcator loses Nastaboi will take the second place till the end of season IV.
Prizes:
For the winner: 5 Booster
For second: 3 Booster
For third: 1 Booster

Final Ranking and Rating Update will be available Wednesday/Thursday.
Nastaboi and Payron are called on sending me their adresses per PM/ICQ so they will get their boosters before Christmas :)
I am rly ok with th 3rd place, now I am getting the feeling I can also go for the top 8 from our very nice GP's ... The season was pretty cool because we had a lot of new players and even pretty cool decks that worked out ... just love this online seasons :)
thx Gerry for the work you doing here ... keep it up .. and don t know if you need help with something just ask maybe I could help a bit too :)
Season IV ended 14 December 2008.
73 matches / 172 games have been played during the last weeks. This is a new record (in comparision Season III with 41 matches / 106 games)
And the winners are:
MErcator came out first with a record of 10:2 matches and 20:8 games !!
Nastaboi followed close behind with 9:3 matches and also 20:8 games !!
Payron had also 9:3 matches but worse tiebreaker 19:10 games.
Congratulation to all of them!
The first 4 places were close together like also place 5 to 9. Have a look at the final ranking udpdated today.
MErcator donated his first price of 5 boosters for the next season.
3 Boosters go out to Nastaboi. First time a player from outside Germany gets a prize!
1 Booster goes out to Payron.
Season winners history:
Season 1: Sturmgott (1st) - Guardian (2nd) - Vazdru (3rd)
Season 2: MErcator (1st) - Mythrandrir (2nd) - Sturmgott (3rd)
Season 3: Vazdru (1st) - MErcator (2nd) - pyyhttu (3rd)
Season 4: MErcator (1st) - Nastaboi (2nd) - Payron (3rd)
Ladder updated today.
The first three places level off. MErcator stays on the top as single player with a rating above 1700.
Payron climbed 1, Nastaboi 2 and Ludwitch 3 places.
Mythrandir now on the 8th place, first time not the best player from outside Germany in our Ladder. The best player from outside Germany coming from Finland and is called Nastaboi (5th place).
The biggest step made pyyhttu from 16 to 10.
Season V started yesterday, 04.01.09 and ends 29.03.09.Every player will have two parings/week.
If you wanna win this season have a look at the guys to beat:
- MErcator, two times League Champion and toped-ranked player in our [HLL]Ladder,
- the former League Champion Sturmgott who has come back to get the title again and
- last but not least actually our best player from outside Germany Nastaboi and runner-up in Season IV
MErcator (Season IV winner) has already been paired against Nastaboi (Season IV runner-up) - it will be interesting to see which weapons they choose and who comes out ahead.
As long as all participants of Season V stay in our league there will be no rematches at all and first time 13 pairings at the end of the season for each of you. Like in a real league each contender would play vs everyone else once.
New pairings posted today, ranking after the first week (9 matches played) is online. Nastaboi got the first big point vs MErcator, like last season I've started with a nice record of 2 wins and 4:0 games actually leading the field - let's see who beats me first.
Ranking and pairings updated.
Nastaboi took the lead - still undefeated playing some sweet rogue decks recently. The rest of the field is quite close together. Week 3 pairings will bring together the reigning champion MErcator with the past ones Sturmgott and Vazdru. We will also have a match Nastaboi vs Vazdru - after which there won't be more than one undefeated Highlander in season V!
hi everyone,
i've got a lots of games open and would be delightened if i could play some during next week
so if u see me online, please just ask me or sent me a time when it would suit you...
I'm doing a lot of things in the evenings (mostly magic :-)) so it's easiest to get me during the afternoons
cu all,
Mercator
Registration has been closed.
Ranking is up-to-date again. New pairings are following tonight.
Like in the weeks before the leadership has changed. Nastaboi is on the top again. But although Nastaboi and me haven't played our match yet there is noone left undefeated.
And have a second look at our ranking. There are some "newies" on the top of the field :o Georg B and coldcrow showed their real faces and had a terrific advancement.
Nastaboi 6-1 (defeat vs pyyhttu)
Georg B 6-2 (defeat vs Ludwitch and after 6 straight wins another one vs Outlaw)
Coldcrow 5-3 (defeats vs Nastaboi, Vazdru, Outlaw)
Vazdru 4-1 (defeat vs grizzledmage)
Outlaw 4-1 (defeat vs MErcator)
hey, this is a reminder/question.
Don´t forget that conflux is legal from the release date, february 6th (this Friday), so i´m guessing that it will be legal here on the league as well, right?
So it´s better to update your MWS masterbase.
Thks
I'm ill actually so everthing will take a bit longer this time (ranking/pairings/matches).

hey, i´m having some trouble with my wireless (good signal, no net), so i´m wont be ble to play my matches until i solve the problem (MWS crashes enough on it own) or during the weekend (different pc), sorry for the trouble.

Let's put the fun aside, why don't you simply use a cable?
Right now I do not have the time to play my matches, so I am afraid I have to drop from the league. Sorry :(

Plz remeber that there is still 6 weeks left in this season for playing your open matches. Do not quit if there is a busy period in which you do not have the time to play any games.
Edit: Just spoke to Ludwitch - he really wants to drop - so it's ok.

yeap, my W-lan cable is plugged :P
Simply (no cable) because i bought a wireless cardbus and i need to see if it´s working fine, so it either works properly, or my time goes to figuring it out ;) but yes, if in case of an emergency match, i´ll plug my cable :P
BTW: it seems i resolved it, still wanna test some friendly matches before playing league ones. I changed my router from N to G... go figure.. o.0
EDITED: well, i´ve played half dozen games with payron, and only got one crash, so i think i´m O.K. for the league matches, if you see me around msn/icq just ask if i have time. cya
Georg B is the first guy reaching 14 matches. His impressive record is 9-5 (27 pts) 20:16 games

It was the closest season ever, place 4-6 are seperated by 5% in games-%, place 7-9 by 3% in games-%!!!

Ranking updated.
Again its quite close on the top. Have a look at the Top 5 of our ranking:
Nastaboi 5:1 -as usual-
Sensenmann 5:2 -man on fire / made a huge step in our ladder-
Sturmgott 5:2 -after winning first season he wasn't on the top for a while; now he's back / great comeback-
Outlaw 4:1 -the man behind ...with awesome stats-
Payron 4:1 -never in the Top 3 this season but still in good position to reach on of the first places-
On "key match" is still open: Nastaboi (1) 15p - Sturmgott (3) 15p
Now we have another man on fire: Goblinpiledriver! who won his last four matches in a row to get a nice 5-2 score and reach one of the top places of our ladder.
On the one hand we have lots of players with 7 or more matches, Sensenmann played already 9 matches lio123 and Doc 8 ones.
On the other hand we have still some guys with 3 or less matches:
codexx, peeler (3)
jaro (2)
Ferris, saptox (1)
I strongly recommend that those guys tell us if they are willing to play more matches in the next few weeks.
The time-table for the rest of the season will be posted on Sunday.
Hey guys.
Please feel free to write me via ICQ if you have time to play the matches against me even if I am not online (we will find a date to play).
I would love to play all my matches till the end of the season (as usual for me).
Hi

Ranking updated. Two new pairings posted.
This is the closest season ever! We have 4 player with 18 pts (Sturmgott, Nastaboi, Sensenmann, Mythrandir) together on the top of the list. 5 players following close behind with 15 pts (Payron, Outlaw, Kassow-Rossing, Goblinpiledriver, lio123). Everything's possible.
Lets see who will leave the field behind in the end.
5 players have been excluded from the season. Roobiee needs some matches next week (at least one).
Will we get additional matches because of not having the ability to play against the excluded players?

Will we get additional matches because of not having the ability to play against the excluded players?
Each player will have the opportunity to play the same number of matches like everyone else. Actually everyone has 11 or 12 pairings (have a look at the ranking). In the end there will be between 13-15 matches for every participant.
True, but what about the matches against the players whitch got excluded and we are already paired against?
peeler e.g. told me some time ago that he has lost his MWS and doesn't want to instal it new.

You'll get new ones of course. In the end there will be some rematches maybe - we will see (depends if rooobiee stays in the league or not).
The pairings against excluded players are annulled. Matches which have been already played against excluded players are still counting.
Will there be 13-15 Matches for every particiant?
Now I have 11 pairings and played 10. So does new pairings coming these season?
Roobieee has been excluded and new pairings have been posted.
In the end everyone will have 13 matches!
There will be a few rematches soon.
Actually there are 17 open pairings.
Ranking updated - 9 players have still the ability to reach the prize ranks of season VI.
On the top head to head Sturmgott and Nastaboi followed close behind by Payron - these are the players with the best chances to pick up place no. 1.
Since i'm not able to talk to Kassow-Rossing (still grey on ICQ, and doesnt respond my PM) i´m wondering if anyone has his messenger, or if anyone has seen him on ICQ, and if so, please tell him to add me

Same with payron... never responded to my messages and is still grey in my list. So If you read this, please add me and tell me a date when we can play our match.
Yea I don t got oyu in my list ... Is the ICQ number right posted in the pairings because there is another name then yours ... thats kind of confusing for me .. and I did write you a PM ... so I hope now we can settle up our match ... thx 4 writing here .. just post me a PM and we see the rest :)
For all who ask me for my Icq-number: The Number is totally right and my name on Icq is Marsupilami Huba ;).
Sensenmann or Sensemann were already taken on Icq, so I chose my second onlinenick ::). I hope I didn't confuse you all too much.
So I'm looking forward to our enjoyable games.
Hi,
just wanted to ask Outlaw if he could reply something to me when we wanna set up our match ... I wrote you from time to time but never got an answer so just wanna ask you for a short answer :)

Payron is following behind also with 9:4 matches but 20:11 games :o. Damned close!

Runner-Ups are Mercator (1677, 61,54 games-%) and Nastaboi (1677, 60,82 games-%) with one rating point behind Payron.
I'm the first guy with totally more than 100 games won, Georg B the first one reached the "100-losses-benchmark" ;).

thx again for sponsoring prices ... so great that you kind of keep the league intresting without any benifits
I've missed one registration (Teko). We are already 20 participants - that's a new record ;D
Please note that the pairings have been changed for this reason:
2. Sturmgott - TeKo
20. pyyhttu - Teko
Pardon me.
At the moment I'm practicing for German Nationals next weekend. That's why I only play T2 and do some drafts. Therefore i won't play any [HLL]games until coming week. I'm looking forward to play some Highlander matches then ;D
First [HLL]Ranking for season VII has been posted. We have some freshmen on top (Peeler, TeKo and SirGalahad) together with actually the front-runner of our [HLL]ladder Payron. Nastaboi and Mythrandir are undefeated as well.
New pairings will be posted tomorrow evening. From then there won't be any updates until next monday.
In one and a half weeks 17 matches have been already played, 16 participants had at least 1 match. Great thing!
Ranking has been updated (30 matches and 73 games were already played).
Veni Vidi Vici !?!
Firestarter started hot in season VII with a 5-1-record now standing on the top of our list.
Payron (3-0) and Nastaboi (edit: 3-0) are the guys with still a clean record! Peeler and SirGalahad are also in an excellent position.
Pairings no. 4 will be posted this Friday. Ranking will be updated this weekend.
Pairings no. 5 will be posted Wednesday next week.
I'm abroad from 27.08.09 to 06.09.09 (holidays in Italy). There won't be any updates (pairings, ranking, ladder) until 07.09.09.
As at least two guys wanna join our running season I reopened the registration for just 2 days. Wednesday will be the final closing day.

Peeler - coldcrow
pyyhttu - coldcrow
lio123 - coldcrow

If anyone do not reach the benchmark he will be excluded.
[HLL]Ladder updated 11.09.09
First time a player from outside Germany is standing right on the top: NASTABOI (1699).
Runner-Up is an old stager and creator of our homepage: STURMGOTT (1684).
MERCATOR (1677) dropping just one place without playing a match. PAYRON (1672) dropped from 1st to 4th place. Winner of our last season GOBLINPILEDRIVER (1660) climbed on 5th. From naught to hundred in just half a season: FIRESTARTER(1652) on place 6.
This season match Sturmgott vs Nastaboi is still to come - the winner is not only the first persecutor of our actual season-leader firestarter - he is also (maybe) our overall [HLL]leader.
Ranking updated.
In front we have the usual suspects.
Nastaboi took the lead by a short head, Firestarter is following behind.
Our last season-winner Goblinpiledriver reached place no. 3.
Following guys need some matches or rather one match in the next two weeks to avoid from beeing excluded:
PuTe (4)
SirGalahad and Mean_Tutor (6)
The benchmark is 7 matches till 04.10.2009.
New pairings have been posted...and it's "crunch time":
Nastaboi - firestarter
Nastaboi - Goblinpiledriver
firestarter - SirGalahad
Sturmgott - Goblinpiledriver
That are the matches of the top-3-players Nastaboi (33 pts), firestarter (30 pts), goblinpiledriver (24 pts).
The determination of first places is near. Gl to all competitors.
Ranking updated.
PuTe has been excluded. New pairings have been posted.
Players with less than 9 matches (benchmark for 11.10.09):
SirGalahad (7)
pyyhttu (7)
Mean_Tutor (7)

Mean_Tutor (7)
Season ended for this player because they do not reach the benchmark in time.
New pairings have been posted. There will be the last pairings for this season next week - rematches are possible.
Players with less than 11 matches (benchmark for 18.10.09):
coldcrow (9)
Zool (9)

coldcrow (9)
Zool (9)
Coldcrow and Zool are out. Last pairings for this season have been posted. In the end everyone has 17 pairings (except sensenmann and me having 16).
Nastaboi has 12 wins, firestarter 11, goblinpiledriver, marchhare and peeler each 9 wins.
Season VII ended, Final Ranking has been updated.
134 matches / 331 games have been played during the last weeks (in comparison Season VI: 89 matches / V: 96 matches / IV: 73 matches).
This time we've had a neck-and-neck-race between Nastaboi (best online HL player from outside Germany) and Firestarter (actually the most succesful German HL player).
And the winners are:
Nastaboi heads season VII in the end with a record of 13:4 matches and 29:13 games although he lost the "finale" against Firestarter (his 4 defeats were against Firestarter, Kavu24, Zool and marchhare). Like MErcator before he was able to win a second season.
Firestarter is runner-up with 13:4 matches either but 29:18 games. Damned close again!!! (his 4 defeats were against PuTe, Payron, me and marchhare)
So we come to third-placed marchhare with a record of 11:5 matches and 23:13 games. He was able to defeat both top-seeded players Nastaboi and Firestarter.
Congratulation to all of them!
The price for Nastaboi as Highlander are 5 Booster.
Prices donated by myself this time.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Season winners history:
Season 1: Sturmgott (1st) - Guardian (2nd) - Vazdru (3rd)
Season 2: MErcator (1st) - Mythrandrir (2nd) - Sturmgott (3rd)
Season 3: Vazdru (1st) - MErcator (2nd) - pyyhttu (3rd)
Season 4: MErcator (1st) - Nastaboi (2nd) - Payron (3rd)
Season 5: Nastaboi (1st) - Coldcrow (2nd) - Georg B (3rd)
Season 6: Goblinpiledriver (1st) - Payron (2nd) - Sturmgott (3rd)
Season 7: Nastaboi (1st) - Firestarter (2nd) - marchhare (3rd)
[HLL]Ladder has been updated recently. Nastaboi is still on the top of our ladder as single player with a rating above 1700. Firestarter is already No. 3 after just one season! Marchare made it also to the Top 8 in just one strike. These guys are obviously absolute favorites for season VIII which has just begun. Pairings for week one have been posted.
And have a look what we have here (in brackets = [HLL]Ladder-Rank):
Firestarter (3) - Nastaboi (1)
Firestarter (3) - marchhare (7)
Sturmgott (6) - Payron (4)
Right from the start we have a clash of favorites. Lets see who will be first off the mark!
22 matches have been played during the first week. The_Ocean was able to play his 4 matches in the first 48 hours of his league-participation - good job ;D He is actually the only one who played all of his matches already.
The favorites firestarter and Nastaboi each started with a 1-2 defeat -- good news for all other participants ;)
Sturmgott and Mythrandir are standing on the top with a clean record of 2:0 matches and 4:0 games.
There are 8 players alltogether still undefeated.
My internet connection has been down since last Wednesday. Just sayin'.
Registration has been closed today.
Ranking updated. Still 4 undefeated guys:
Mythrandir (15p) / Sturmgott (12p) / Goblinpiledriver (12p) / -jfk- (9p)
and two other guys with 70%+ games percentage:
No Stress (12p) / Mr Green (9p)
Ranking updated.
Still 3 participants w/o any losses:
Mytrandir (18 pts), Goblinpiledriver (18 pts), Sturmgott (15 pts)
One month before the invitationals (http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=329.0) we have following Top 8 of our [HLL]Ladder:
1. Goblinpiledriver
2. Nastaboi
3. Sturmgott
4. Mercator
5. firestarter
6. Payron
7. marchhare
8. Mythrandir
The invitational tournament is going ot take place if 5 of the Top 8 are willing to participate. The winner also get the title "HL Online Champion 2009" ;)
After solving some mayor problems regarding my Windows XP and a new installation of Windows I am unable to open MWS. I get following error code: 0xc0150004. I tested my system with several Programs (hijackthis, ccleaner, chkdisk, testdisk...) deinstalled (including all registry entries) and reinstalled MWS with no success. Finally I typed the error code in google and found no solution I've not tried yet, except formating the whole disc and make a new installation of Windows which I just did >:(.
If any of you have a solution for my problem I would be delighted to hear it. I will search for a solution in the upcoming week, but if nothing helps I will have to drop out of the league for this season, as I'm not willing to format my harddrive and make a clean install of windows for now.
Thanks for any help!
What's the whole error message? I guess you are getting: 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004)'? If so, have you by any chance re-installed an OEM version of Windows that was pre-activated with your computer? In that case your OS is likely pre-loaded with crapware and MWS might have a conflict with them.
If not, then I can't suggest anything else that your mws installation file (setup.exe or something) was corrupted during download.
Hey pyyhttu,
the case you are describing is totally correct. I had several computer problems (USB-Root-Hub had driver issues which couldn't be handled whether by updating the driver nor deinstalling and re-installing them) so that I re-installed my OEM version of Windows. Do you have any experience which crapware is causing this problem? If you like, I'll send you a HijackThis-log for further details of my system.
No need, it could be any one of them and I have no experience what-so-ever when it comes to faulty OEM windows, so I would be of little help. Your best bet is just to see and try to uninstall them all and see if that helps. If not, go further and use some crawler to clean the registry of their last remnants, as I doubt they are not well-behaved software (they leave the registry contaminated with all sorts of crap, remember to backup the registry).
If that doesn't help, well... then you either have to get somewhere a "proper" retail Windows which you are allowed to install on any hardware platform without the OEM bundle crap, unless you google some other root cause for that error message.
Or then you could dedicate some (2 Gb is plenty) free disk space, get, say VirtualBox, install Ubuntu or whatever modern Linux distro on it, and run MWS through Wine in there (pervert installation, but this works fine). This way you don't have to uninstall your current OEM Windows.
Or if you are an oddball, you could try another no-cost operating system that is binary compatible with Windows, so MWS *should* work (no guarantees). See: http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html
Sorry, I don't have any easy fixes to offer in your case.
Thanks for the quick response!
I won't do it with virtual box. You are right, that is pervert: Running Linux in a virtual environment and than emulate windows ;D.
I will search for another solution. When I find one, I will come back and post it here. Till then I won't be able to play any MWS-Games, sorry.
My internet connection is back, beware.
uuuuh :o
;)
So I didn't come across any solution not involving the command "format c:". So, for the time being I will drop out of the league. Sorry lads, maybe I can fix this in time to participate in the next league.
See you,

GccG is back online. This is another free magic online programm which I have always prefered to MWS. This could be an opportunity for you.

Could you post a link to this? Although I have been satisfied with MWS for years, few can deny that there are problems intrinsic to it. [The other one that was highly recommended to me, Octagon, I spent pretty much a full day trying to figure it out, and finally gave up in disgust.]

(No pun intended with that). Gccg is nice as it's cross platform but it has a huge learning curve, even greater than OCTGN. But do try, you might like it. You'll have to play around with .bat files though and "earn" your card images.
QuoteThe other one that was highly recommended to me, Octagon, I spent pretty much a full day trying to figure it out, and finally gave up in disgust.
Yeah, it requires a ton of tweaking and configuration, and even then it lacks some vital functionality. See: http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=299.msg2556#msg2556
I plan to rebuild octgn's db in some near future, and could share & document my configuration files along it if it helps you. That way you don't have to spend _all_ day figuring it out.
The project has been putten on ice some years ago. But now there is a new group of fans who are going on. I have just downloaded it last week and played a game. It is very easy to install and to use. A lot is discribed on this domain:
http://gccg.sourceforge.net/
It just take you some time to download all the files especially the card images.
Try and enjoy!
Ranking updated:
Mythrandir (9-1) took the lead followed by Sturmgott (9-1) as runner-up, Goblinpiledriver is also at 27pts with a record of 9-2. The_Ocean, No Stress and -jfk- are still in a good position to reach one of the first places.

Season VIII ended, Final Ranking has been updated.
159 matches / 394 games have been played during the last weeks. This is again a new record!

-jfk- is runner-up with 12:4 matches and 27:13 games. Remarkable that he played all his games with a single deck: WW! And he made it to the top in his first season! Meanwhile he entered the Top 8 of our [HLL]Ladder too.
On third place we have Payron this time with a record of 11:4 matches and 24:15 games. He had a nice 7:2-run in the last 2 weeks!

I'd like to lower the threshold for my door prize to 14 or 15 completed matches, because season was so long, and players who are unable/unwilling to do all their matches also make it more difficult to those who'd like to. Winner to be announced soon.
Congrats Goblinpiledriver! that was one heck of a league! Good going.
Also congrats to JFK for playing with only one deck! ;)
*brass horns*
Announcing: THe special prize for random player who played it to the bitter end. Every player with at least 14 matches completed, excluding myself and top 3 performed, had a change to win. Those with 16 or 17 completed matches had more changes to win (1/20, 2/20 and 3/20 respectively). We have rolled the die and the winner is...

Marchhare with 15 matches! He will reserve an assortment of highlander playable foils. Please contact me on how to get your prize.
Thanks everyone for playing season VIII!
i have to leave the current hll season because i have no time for playing. sorry for those who have to still play me.
I am sorry ... but I think I will asign my first matches in about 2 weeks, I was pretty busy the last weeks and now I move back to study in a differnet town, so I need to get my internet working right there and will have not enought time on the weekends ... I try to play a lot of games after I set up everthing there ... thx anyways
hi everyone,
I also am sorry, because I didn't have that mucht time to play in the last weeks. My first son was born recently so there was muchmuchmuch stress. Now we're back home and I will try to make up for the not yet played matches.

no - just having one little boy at home yet ;) but it's "busy season" for me as auditor actually so working av. 50-hours/week + family don't give me much room for magic in general
I try to update things this week and play a match or two some time around Easter
also i've hadn't time to introduce derStefan82 as new moderator of [HLL] so far
he offered some help and i try to coordinate further steps asap to keep things running
Well, i think i speak for all when i say your effort is hugely appreciated.
If you need anything, let me know.

Every participant must have at least 12 matches till 21.05.2010
Every participant must have at least 14 matches till 28.05.2010
Season ends 30.05.2010
I'm dearly sorry, but I cannot find time for online play currently, probably not until the middle of September. So I'll have to drop from the league this seasons and skip the next.
I probably won't find time to play the matches, either. I'm sorry for causing organisational problems.
Ranking updated - peeler is leading the field followed by six players with "tied" second place (12 points: marchhare, Goblinpiledriver, Mythrandir, Coldcrow, Nastaboi, Tabris).
Next pairings probably Wednesday, Thursday.
Has been quite busy lately, doing 55-60 hours of work each week. Won't be much better the next 2 weeks too so I won't play many games or update [HLL] related stuff in time ::)
As a matter of principle RoE will become legal for [HLL] starting with May, 8th ;)
But if both players agree -before the match has been started ;)- on using RoE cards in their match it is ok!
The_Ocean and r4nd0m1z3r have been excluded due to not reaching the benchmark of 6 matches
new pairings and ranking will be posted briefly

And the winners are:

After a victory in last season Goblinpiledriver is runner-up this time with 12:6 matches and 29:18 games.
On third place we have -jfk- who played again almost every match with White Weenie. He has won 12:6 matches too but had a worse tiebreaker with 27:22 games.
Remarkable that those three guys played all their 18 matches this season.

I already stated this position in the council discussions some weeks ago:
Since I seem to be the only guy who cares about editions becoming legal, we're going to omit that "peculiarity" from our rules in the next banning season.
just as clarification:
M11 is already legal
hi ;)
its a bit off topic, buuut:
is anyone going to need a hotel for GP ghotenburg ? im searching for someone to share a room with during the weekend
if interested write me in icq.
good luck and fun for all participants
My goal for this season is to play different deck every time. Beware.
Ranking for Season X has been updated.
Pairings for week 4 are available soon.
37 matches have been already played! On place one and two we have the usual suspects.
Goblinpiledriver is actually leading Ranking Season X. He's runner-up in HL Online Championship 2009 and leader of [HLL]Ladder too. Nastaboi, the reigning HL Online Player, is on second place. On places 3-5 we have some HLL-"newbies" cedzoh, whisper and W0lf.
I'm gonna have loads of time this week, so i'd like to play some of my games this week, since afterwards i'll be more occupied.
If you see me on ICQ or MSN ring me.
Thanks
I'm busy (as usual ;)) in the moment. Wednesday = game day; i'll try to be available tomorrow evening for one or two matches. The rest of the week i won't be online much.
New pairings will be posted next days. Plz note that there are already 10 pairings for each of us and there will be a max. of 15 pairings for each participant this time.

Sorry guys, i have to drop from this season.
Too much work-load, too much family buisness.
Season X ended, final Ranking has been updated.
115 matches / 281 games have been played during the last weeks.
And the winners are:
Goblinpiledriver is the first guy able to win a [HLL]season the third time. In the end he is leading the field with 10:3 matches and 21:13 games. He won 76,92% of his matches in Season X, his losses were against cedzoh in the very first game of this season, vs ~fenry~ and Mythrandir. The victory in the rematch vs cedzoh in the very last match of our season made the difference.
Runner-Up is Tabris with 10:5 matches and 22:13 games.
Nastaboi who played all matches with different deck reached a score of 9:3 matches and 20:6 games. That means all his victories were 2:0!! Unbelievable :o
Congratz!
~fenry~ is receiving a special price for beeing the one and only player with 15 matches outside top 3.
Just one match behind are Mythrandir, Georg B and derStefan82.
The prices are:
* Argothian Enchantress (dt.) + 2 foil picks (see below)
* Volrath's Stronghold + 2 foil picks
* Gifts Ungiven + Winter Orb + 2 foil picks

Thought i played all my games, anyway... Congrats to Goblinpiledriver!
Also 3rd place with all different decks is very awesome!! Congrats to Nastaboi and his deckbuilding skills.
And I did not even got to play Battle of Wits or High Tide... Unfortunate for me not to be able to play the last three matches, just one win would've done it for me. Thanks again for the season.
Sooooooooooo? Piledriver any decissions yet ?
Okay I thought it over, and I am ready for my "Herablassen'de" decision:
I take the german Argothian Enchantress, Herablassen(german for Condescend) and Coiling Oracle.
My little Resume from this Season:
Goblin Piledriver:
5C-Alara-aggro 8:3
Blue-Bant-controll 1:0
Blue-5C-controll 1:0
Tabris:
RDW 8:3
MUC 0:1
UG-aggrocontroll 2:1
Nastaboi:
Jund-Valakut-Landfall 0:1
Wildfire-Swans 1:0
UGr-Heartbeat 1:0
RWB-aggro 0:1
Alluren 1:0
Time-Sieve-Combo 1:0
Owling-Mine 1:0
Hypergenesis 1:0
MonoG-Ramp 1:0
WB-Angel-Staxx 1:0
Grixis-Ramp(Wildfire) 0:1
Monoblue-aggro-Fish 1:0
thx for the summary:
I´ll take Volraths, compulsive research and carefull consideration
So I am left with... Would've loved Tabris's pile, but not everyone can win.
I'll take Gifts/WOrb/Peace/Turf.
I won't have any connection to internet at home for a while (3-5 days). So i will have a quick look what happened during lunch break but won't be able to play some matches in this time.
There won't be any exclusions for stage III and no specific pairings too. Everybody is free to challenge anyone else (once) till he has reached a maximum of 14 matches. Have fun!
Will there be an update in the hll-Ranking for Season 11, soon?
I just wanted to see how much matches I played, before I arrange new ones.
simply count them in the scoreboard

mhm...
counting would be easy. 9-4
But I have a problem. helle explained to me that the english 'must not' means the exact opposite of 'nicht müssen' in german.
So I didn't understood that it's forbidden to play against other players of the phases before.
But this happened in 2 Matches with Tabris and in 2 with Cedzoh.
Game 40: Goblin Piledriver(5C-Alara-aggro vs Cedzoh(YingYang-BW-aggro) 2:1
Game 49: GoblinPiledriver (RB-Goblins) vs cedzoh (GWr tokens) 0:2
Game 65: GoblinPiledriver(5C-Alara-aggro) vs Tabris(BGW-PatternRector) 2:0
Game 16: Goblin Piledriver (Naya) vs Tabris (BWG Pattern Rector) 1:2
And when I look at the Scoreboard this happended to other players, too:
Game 34: Geth29 (Oath Staxx) - Verik (BR Aggro) 2:0
Game 51: Geth29 (Pattern-Rector) - Verik (BR - Suicide) 2:0
Game 56: Tabris (Pattern combo) - Payron (4c recrussion) 0:2
Game 43: Tabris (Pattern combo) - Payron (Scapshift) 0:2
That's why a clarification and a hll-Ranking update would be necessary.
hmm - damned English ???
I used the expression "must not" in a wrong way :-\... obviously
"Groupmembers (= Participants of our league) are free to play vs eachother once". The "clarification" was crap >:(
I have actually no idea how to rule this. I tend to annul all rematches. Opinions?
I'd say every played match counts.
I would think anulling the rematches would be the right decision.
The Mistake would just be erased and the rules would clearly come through.
As it was my fault all matches played count.
For the rest of the running season and for the future the rules have been changed:
Stage II
Groupmembers are free to play vs eachother once (as clarification: participants do not have to play vs opponents of previous stages)
Stage III
Participants do not have to play vs opponents of previous stages.
Season XI ended, final Ranking has been updated.
73 matches / 185 games have been played during the last three months.
And the winners are:
Goblinpiledriver is on the roll in the last weeks. He won a GP Trial and GP VIII afterwards, he qualified for German Nationals first time and won our HLL Online League. Impressive run!
Runner-Up is helle with 80% of his matches won.
Nastaboi reached third place.
Payron had 7 victories out of 8 matches - but 8 matches were just too little to reach a front place.
Congratz!
Tabris earned a price for most match attandance.
The prices are:
First Pot:
Solemn Simulacrum
Path to Exile
Ill-Gotten Gains
Mishra's Helix
Patriarch's Bidding (jap.)
Treetop Village (foil, Promo)
Skinrender (foil, Promo)
Mana Short (unlimited)
Bribery
Second Pot:
Persecute
Blood Moon
Armageddon
hymn to Tourach
Copperline Gorge
Phyrexian Arena
Gemstone Mine
Catastrophe
Spectral Force (foil)
The prices will be picked in order of the final ranking (Goblinpiledriver, helle, Nastaboi). Each one gets 3 cards of first pot + 3 cards of second pot.
Each one may choose the Draft Set on Modo sponsored by Nastaboi instead of their cards-prices.
Tabris will get the cards leftover in pot 1 and 2 (or the modo draft set).
All other or non-picked cards will be gathered in the price-pool for next season.

Yes, you can. Just register and feel free to challenge some player in our league. Best option is to contact them via ICQ.
Season XII is over, we had 13 matches and Tabris won with a record 5:1
During the twelve seasons we had exactly 1.000 matches played !!! The 1.000th match has been won by Tabris (vs Goblinpiledriver).
@ Tabris - you'll get your price we meet next time
I will gather some ideas to "revive" our HLL Online Season.
I played the 1000th match? hooray

I'm still not sure how I feel about the PW points, however, a bit when like the rules (DMG on stack) changed, I think this is one of the things we should pick up, though...
I didn't follow the discussion about PW-points in depth, but as I got it, the main reason was to encourage people to attend tournaments the couldn't have played with the current system without loosing lots of rating. I don't think we have this problem in our league.
On the other hand, rewarding people for playing games will maybe vitalize the league. So it may be rewarding to give it a try.
Hi everybody. I didn't know where to post this so i just did it here. I'm new and would like to participate in the online league, what should I do?

There will be another season probably this year.
Season XIII starts November, 1st and ends December, 31th.
Registration will be online in a few minutes.
Donations to price funds are welcome but -as usually- not required; participation is free.
Price-funds is given away to top player (1-64 matches), top two players(65-96 matches) or top 3 players (97+ matches).
Furthermore one first-round bye at next HL Grand Prix in Hanau is granted to top player of season XIII if we have at least 8 participants with 4 matches (or more) each (as soon GP has been officially announced by JKEntertainment - as long no guarantee).
Enjoy!
Next ladder will include lifetime planeswalker rating, invitations to HL Online Championship 2011 based on "old" rating system. Season XIII gives ya the last chance to catch one of the top spots which are actually held by:
1. Nastaboi (winner of Online Championship 2009 and 2010, reigning Finnish HL Champion)
2. Payron
3. marchhare
4. Goblinpiledriver (reigning HL GP Champion)
5. Tabris (reigning [HLL] Season XII Champion)
6. Sturmgott (godfather of Highlander)
7. Helle
8. firestarter (reigning German HL Champion)
on 9th spot btw. MErcator (reigning German Magic Champion) ;D

Die ,,Verlierer" werden in das Verliererbracket eingereiht wodurch sich dort auch zwei Byes in der Trostrunde ergeben.

Tournament starts approximately 2nd week of october
Feedback is appreciated.
If anyone could re-check the grid would be nice.
Hey,
if possible I want to record as much games as possible from you guys. I think there is a demand for video coverage of our format and maybe the people get to see some other plays besides me ;) And also I try to get some guest commentary on the "show" so. If you guys will participate and settle a match pls contact me.
I'll launch the registration this weekend. I wonder if this experiment works and there are enough participants to start the first online tournament of its kind. But one thing I know for sure - HLL needs a relaunch and a nice price-support should attract those kind of players who participated in season XIV. With better price-support we've had 17 players and 66 matches in season XIV, with no price-support we have 9 players and 7 matches... ::) If it works i will provide HL-staples for the next season as price-support if the community ask for.
Online tournaments have obv. some advantages and disadvantages compared to rl tournaments. One big pro is of course the cost and time factor for players to participate (no costs / time for traveling) and tournament organizer to launch such an event (no costs for the location and judges, no risk to have a loss).
open letter
Hi folks,
it's time to bang the drum for HLL 16 :)
Imo good opportunities to compete with HL-players from other regions and other countries are quite rare. HL Grand Prixs are hard to arrange and just once in a blue moon so the HL players tend to play in their local playgroups - like me.
The HLL online league could maybe offer an opportunity to bring those players together ?!
Looking back to the last 15 HLL online seasons you can recognize that there is some kind of correlation between price support and match count...
that's why i've added a starting fee (Eur 5,55 too much?, should i reduce it to maybe EUR 3,33 ;)) and simultaneously a suitable price support to attract people joining the tournament.
-> with e.g. 32 players winner takes 30 booster, runner-up 14 booster ... -
I don't wanna get rich as tournament organizer but push HL as tournament format a bit, so i tried to calculate the price-support fairly - not even attached a minimum wage for my job :P maybe you don't like to have booster but some HL cards instead - if so let me know.
Cockatrice offers a nice stage for Magic Online and it is already frequently used for HL battles. Why not use that platform for bigger tournaments?
It would be nice if you can point out the online league to your local playmates and give me a feedback which things make you or your friends not to participate at the tournament (cockatrice/online-gaming, starting fee, prices, standing order of the tournament, time-issues, motivation/HL itself ...??) or even better: just join :P
HLL Online League could die with this season (or died already with season 13 + 15 ::)) - maybe there can be a restart, i really don't know ... but maybe you do.
Vazdru
I think the biggest problem is the time (it's a huge hindrance for me). When I play at a local tournament I have to reserve exactly one day (mostly 6-7 hours). If I sign up for this league I've to play multiple Sunday evenings. In Magic Online tournaments are held like regular tournaments. When you are ready you've to wait until next round. Round times are fixed. So maybe something like this is possible for us, too. Then one could finish a tournament in one day.
Thank you very much for these evening's games, folks! Very entertaining and I really love that video coverage, keep going!
congratz pyyhttu, in the last two rounds of season no. 16 you've beaten the top-seeded players Syras and Payron in the finals - well-done
tournament-structure and -flow were nice imo, thx to all participants! there will be another tournament like this soon

Hi, its great to see the HLL still running. A few years ago, I actually played one season myself but didnt care too much ever since tho, tbh.
However, I always kept playing HL, so a couple of days ago, I happened to be on Cockatrice and found Payron vs pyythhu playing the finals. I joined the game as a spectator, and had a great time watching. Thanks Payron to enable spectators/showing handcards, I really appreciated it.
Also, kudos to Payron for the great deal of sportsmanship he showed. I cant say I would have managed to do the same.
Regards, r4nd0m
some minor notes to Cockatrice's legal dispute with Hasbro and the connected downtime of Cockatrice:
- time-table of HLL XVII and Laddder-Tournament will be paused for a week from now on because of the current troubles, however everyone is free to play a scheduled match whereever and whenever he wants to, HLL doesn't claim any restrictions how to play the sheduled match
- mws was the main platform for HLL-games for quite a long time, honestly I haven't ever used it since mid of 2011 - so I don't have an estimation yet if mws could work as platform for online games again
- if running tournaments have to processed back in any kind, esp. for reasons the games/tournament gets unmanageable i will do so as fast as i can to keep the inconvienence for all players as small as possible
- if running tournaments have to processed back in any kind, the end of cockatrice would seal the end of my support for HLL too
If this still continues I'd be interested joining.

derStefan82 is rewarded with 50% discount on next HLL season's starting fee for his forth round report:
derStefan82 (BUG-Combos) - Olii (Jeskai) 2:1
game 1:
Mulliganed a hand with 'Marsh Flats, Counter spell, Emerald Charm, Exploration, Brainstorm, Urborg, Darkslick Shores' as no business.
Kept hand with 'Noxious Revival, Marsh flats, Sultai Charm, Impluse, Mir's Guile, Evasive Action, Demonic Tutor', was a bit distracted and did not think long about this hand.
Normally I would have mulliganed this because of 1 lander. Kept it because Guile should be good vs control and DT for business.
- I play Flats, Bayou, Guile (which leaves me without blue, that's why I should have mulliganed initially)
- Olii play tapped Clifftop Retrea
- I'm still not in the game and forget my upkeep Mirri's Guile and draw Forest
- Olii plays Snow Island
- Me upkeep Guile seeing Spell Snare, Inquisiton, Dark Depth, draw Depth, DT to make sure my next land drop which get's negated
- Olii plays Mutavault
- Me upkeep Guile seeing, Spell Snare, Inquisition, and some none land card (still no blue and only 2 mana producing lands), play Inquisition seeing, 'Bloodstained Mire, Polluted Delta, Azorious Charm, Electrolize, Elspeth Tirel, Force of Will', discarding Charm as it stops Marit Large, EOT Olii plays Electrolize on me going to 17
- Olii plays Bloodstained and attacks with Mutavault
- I find again no land in Guile
- Olii is playing Delta, Elspeth creating 3 tokens, EOT I play Noxious Revival for Fetchland (should I probably have done one turn earlier)
- Me drawing Flats, playing Flats
- Olii playing Windswept Heath and attacking with soldiers and going to 21 with Elspeth life ability, I'm going to 12, EOT I fetch for U-Sea, Brainstorm finding another land
- Me playing land, finding no real business yet so go with counter + impulse on hand and 4 open mana
- Olii is attakichng me with tokens again bringing me to 8, Elspeth gets him another 3 tokens , me EOT Impulse getting Intuition but 1 mana short playing it
- Me finding Thespian Stage with Guile playing it
- Olii is attacking me for 6 so I go to 2, he goes to 27 because of Elspeth life ability, EOT Stage and Depth are creating a Marit Large
- Me attacking him with Marit Large to 7 playing Crop rotation Main Phase during my turn hoping that he keeps Force for something I might play afterwards and does not see Crop as relevant unfortunely he counters so I'm dead on board
game 2:
Mulligan a one-lander without combo potential. Keep a mediocre hand with 'Sunken Ruins, Emrakul, Remand, Counter Spell, Glacial Chasm, Intuition, Snow Swamp' cause I think double Counter + Intuition should be ok against control.
- I lead with Snow Swamp
- He plays Shvan Reef, Ancestral Vision
- I draw Mystical Tutor, play Sunken Ruins and have now the possibilty for eather counter or EOT Tutor
- He plays Serums Visions and tapped Clifftop Retreat, I play EOT Mystical for Demonic
- I play Demonic Tutor for Thespian Stage to hit my land drop
- He plays Mutavault
- I draw Urborg, play Urborg
- He plays nothing, I play EOT Intuition for Loam, Wasteland, Dark Depth getting Loam
- I play Delta go with double counter open
- He plays upkeep Ancestral Vision which I counter with Remand, he counters back whith Prohibit which I respond with my Counterspell, he plays Mountain (no blue Mana open)
- I play Loam for Wasteland, Delta, Depth, play Wasteland to destroy his only blue mana source, and play drawn Merchant Scroll to which he concedes
game 3:
I keep an aggressive hand with 'Doomsday, Counterspell, Remand, Force of Will, Tectoncic Edge, Personal Tutor, Scalding Tarn', I kind of like this hand against a slow deck as I have an early Doomsday with Force backup.
- He plays Misty
- I draw Mystical Tutor and play Scalding Tarn
- He plays Snow Island and I play EOT Mystical which he Remands
- I draw Spell Pierce and play Tec Edge
- He plays Flooded Strand and I play EOT Mystical for Dark Ritual
- I play Ritual, Doomsday fiddling with Cockatrice and Doomsday as I have played only 3 matches in Cockatrice during the last years and so I'm not that experienced
- He plays Mountain, Fact or Fiction seeing Absorb, Steam Vents, Councils Judgement, Spell Snare, Ponder taking Ponder, Absorb
- I play Brainstorm, Shelldock Isle
- He plays Ponder, Karakas
- I play Tec Edge -> Karakas, Shelldock into Emrakul -> extra Turn
- Play Tropical Island, attack with Emrakul destroy all his permanents and bring him to 3 to win with my next attack
Thanks for the games.

Matchplay: Matches have to be played within a period of about two weeks. The staff announce a deadline for each round at Sunday, 9 pm CET. If both don't appear, it is a draw. If only one player appears he gets the win if he used the "[HLL]Meeting Point" for match-dating, otherwise it's a draw. (Note: Thereby using the Meeting Point instead of PM or that kind is highly recommended!)
I'm on my way back from Rotterdam on Sunday and won't be available on cockatrice 9 pm probably. If there are any problems write a public message in Meeting Point. Otherwise have some fun!

All reports can be found here: http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=1245.15
As best report we have chosen Payron (Izzet-Control) vs Senshuken (Azorius-Control) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh9AhmiB5qc
"YouTube-Reports" won't have a subsription for this title but we are appreciate the effort Payron made by revive this kind of game-reports.
So Payron is rewarded with 50% discount on next HLL season's starting fee.
HLL-Ladder has been updated as well: http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=121.0
The invitations for Online Championship 2016 will be posted soon.

New Season won't start before we are at least 8 participants.
http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=1364.msg14348#new
If we can't find enough players till end of June there will a summer break and we will have another try in autumn.
I will update price pool this weekend probably.

We will have a summer break till
September 9th.
Then i will try to launch a new season again as we have currently only 2 participants (firestarter an me).
As the future of the tournament series is unclear everyone is free to change back PP for EUR 3 each (or choose from current price-pool -> http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=1344.0).
I try to lauch a new Online League next year.
DRAFT – Suggestions welcome!
Tournament Organizer: Vazdru
Judge: tbd
Modus: Swiss-Rounds best-of-three, play-offs best-of-five
Rules Enforcement Level: Regular
Starting Fee: EUR 5
One deck: The deck code (Cockatrice) has to be posted before the tournament starts. Decks can't be changed during the whole tournament (deck codes become locked as soon as the tournament starts).
Matchplay: Matches have to be played within a period of about two weeks. The staff announce a deadline for each round at Sunday, 9 pm CET. If both don't appear, it is a draw. If only one player appears, he gets the win if he offered target dates publicly.
Report: The winner of each match has to post the result as soon as possible. A (at least) short report or replays of the games are recommended.
Vacation: Each player can announce a vacation period of 1 week once during the whole tournament (Swiss + Top X). In that case the period for playing the match prolongates for everyone by 1 week. A matchplay-period can't be prolongated more than once. The staff will announce a new deadline for the round in case a vacation period has been requested.
Prices: 100 % of starting fee will be distributed as MKM-Coupons
Pricepool will be divided on top 4:
50 % winner
25 % runner-up
15 % third
10 % fourth
Rounds: Depends on number of registered players:
2: 1 round
3-4: 2 rounds
5-8: 3 rounds
9-16: 4 rounds
17-32: 5 rounds
33+: 6 rounds
Play-offs:
8-16 players: play-offs TOP 4
17+ players: play-offs TOP 8
Deck-Building: Current Banned List at the beginning of the tournament. Unban Watch List cards are unavailable.
Decklists must be send to the judge before the tournament starts. Top 4 rather Top 8 will be published before play-offs.
The results and match-report of the last swiss round will be gathered by the judge. He/she will publish the results as soon all results are available.
Higher Swiss Standing chooses the starting player in g1 in play-offs.
