Not trying to start anything or get anyone's feathers ruffled.
At my local store there is two guys (two red-green tokens) with that combo in their deck and its frustrating
to lose to it every time both cards hit play, even when one dedicates a lot of resources and card choices to beat it.

When Flash & Hulk ruled the format, the same solutions were available to Hulk. Of course that combo was by far stronger than the aforementioned Buried Alive + Reanimate. But still I think there should be absolutely NO 2-card-combo available that wins the game out of the hand for just 4 mana, not even for 5 mana. Swans + Chain costs at least 6 mana, which is still so cheap that we're really not too sure this should be available. But in that case we considered it expensive enough to allow players to prove us wrong.
I have lost many times to a 2 card combo that costs five mana. One of the cards is being removed from the watchlist now too.

No white Akroma, Rorix Bladewing, Spirit of Night, etc?
I saw Makeshift Mannequin, but no Imperial Archangel or Simic Skyswallower.
Have you played this against anyone yet?
That may have come off as looking down on your list, didn't mean it to.
I apologize if it did.

what colors are you using?
mine are GUB.
G for survival, regrowth, LFTL, etc. B and U for obviuos reasons.
one card I really want to try out is Greater Good. Discard outlet and gets around RFG cards like Corpse Dance etc.

Has anyone tried to build a highlander reanimate deck?
When Urza's was still extended legal that was my deck of choice and I miss playing it.
I have very rough "lists" for it, but thought someone may have tried it and found it didnt work very well.

I agree with most of HedgehogPie's suggestions. These are some that I am using in a current BGW recursion ( in this forum)-

Necrotic Sliver (two Vindicates in your deck and works with Harmonic Sliver!!)
Lilliana Vess
Elspeth Knight Errant/Ajani Goldmane (all PW's are bombs in this format)
Kodama's Reach
Krosan Verge (gets Duals)
Quasali Pride Mage
Shred Memory (transmutes and GY removal)
Maze of Ith ( if you have one)
Crop rotation
Raven's Crime (good with LFTL)
Land Tax (good with raven's crime)
Recurring Nightmare
Yosei (hard lock against aggro with Recurring Nightmare and.....Kokusho  ;) )

Just off the top.

Lavalanche imo is going to be huge!
XRBG
sorcery
does X damage to target player and each creature that player controls.

General Discussion / Re: taboo subject???
15-03-2009, 11:47:03 PM
The reason I thought it might be taboo to talk about it is because I hadn't seen any posts regarding it.
Like I said though, I haven't completely searched the forums on this.
I would be ecstatic if Highlander became a sanctioned format!!! I would be more than happy to do what I can to help get it sanctioned.
What would be the easiest way to get a hold of Sturmgott for some more info??

General Discussion / taboo subject???
15-03-2009, 08:40:35 PM
I haven't completely scoured this site for this subject, but I haven't seen anything about it. If it's taboo or we aren't supposed to talk about it I apologize.

Has anyone thought of talking to the powers that be at Wizards about making this a DCI sanctioned format??? Is it even possible?

I live in America and we don't have big tournaments like the GP's in Europe. There is a pretty decent amount of people in my area that has shown a lot of interest in the Highlander format, but some of them only play in sanctioned tournaments.

All activated abilities of permanents require "tap" in addition to other costs.

I know the name isn't fantastic, but I really like it's ability.
Let me know what you think!

I don't know why I didn't put in the cycle lands. Adding them for sure and aven mindscensor. I know the cycle lands from urza's aren't as good as the onlslaught, but how do you feel about those?
There's a slightly low critter count (24 total) so sometimes I have survival, but no squee or critter to get him. :-[
I'm gonna take out necrataal and put in shriekmaw.
Shred memory.....hmmmm.... that tutors out 14 cards from this....gonna squeeze that in too.

I have been eyeballing cycle lands recently so I will take you suggestion on that, the man-lands, T expanse, and elfhame palace. I'm not using mind twist because its banned and I could not find one when I thought it wasn't banned. The entomb is there for either genesis or if I have survival and can't find squee. I'll test it without entomb for a bit though if I don't add necromancy, animate dead, etc. I completely forgot about harmonic sliver and bane of the living. I really liked aven mindscensor when it was in, I took it out to test all of the PWs (all of which are fantastic!). Do you think that necrataal and shriekmaw is too much or would it be good with both? There's really only two aggro decks in my meta (a RGW zoo and RG bad tokens/wants to be fast aggro/wants to be midrange) and the rest are some form of control or the one RDW that kills on turn 4-5 WITH disruption. Thanks for the input!
