Hey folks,

we want to try to establish a new regular HL-date in the west of Germany, namely Bielefeld and Münster.
First try will be in Bielefeld.

More information at Facebook:

Thanks for all the decklists.

Do you know, how many games were won with the Emperion?

I really like this event and the date is is held. Many people in fact have time this time of the year, who wouldn't go to mtg-tournaments on other dates. And those people are even willing to spend a day of their holidays for events like this.
And JK is continuing a tradition that was founded by Hasbro(?) with the 3 PTQ-event around the end of the year that was held in past times.

About the prizes i like that JK is giving away some sort of HL-cards if not staples. The motivation behind certain cards doesn't bother me too much, as long as i can either play the cards or sell it for a reasonable prize. By the way i made a lot of money with my Ravages, i bought four year ago and sold last year... ;)

And again i have to ask a stupid question, because i don't understand the scheme... ;)

I played Dark Bant and certainly didn't make Top 16. Am i mentioned in your chart?

Thx for the videos and all the work you've done to upload them!  ;)

Sure i'm not as good a player as Toffel is, but having tested the Eggs-Deck myself for quite some time, i had the impression that it is much more importent that your opponent knows what to do. If your opp is experienced with this matchup, they don't need much disruption. Sure, you have the oops-i-win-draws, but the other games got so much harder for me as i played more matches.
Of coure there are some decks never beating Eggs, but often times Eggs can't beat a single counterspell acompanied with some pressure. And the deck doens't always win when having academy. That's exaggerating as much as the 70/30 matchups people talk about.

Did you read Ainok Guide correctly? It puts the land on top of your library. For me, that's a straight downgrade to Sylvan Ranger.

Seems i misread the stats. So there were four people playing Combo?

Are you sure, your Meta Analysis of the GP is right? I'm pretty sure, there was one guy in my car playing Storm (ComboOath), who went 3-3-drop...

@Maqi & Tabris: My goal is not to have an accurate picture of the whole meta, i just want to build a gauntlet to test for the Cup. ;)
So i certainly know i have to be prepared for Staxx and Reanimator, i have to expect the fringe and pet decks and i have to build a consistent deck. But that i already know, what i don't know is what other people expect to be the most played/best decks at the cup. Thx for all the advice on variance anyways. ;)

@Tabris: I didn't mention TPS becaus a) you need a very good pilot (3-4 people in the whole HL-scene) and b) you can test vs. Burn and have similar results (a little simplified for the simple gauntlet).

@tony: You don't need to call the deck tier1, i'm completely ok with that assesment. But i think you need to include an Izzet-Deck in your gauntlet because it beats two of the best decks in the format and will therefor be a force at the HL-Cup. I'm with Maqi here. If you can't beat UR, 4cBlood and RDW, don't choose that deck imho.

@Maqi: I think to simplify things, you can exclude WW and Naya, although i see your point here. Staxx and Reanimator i'm not sure about, as these decks tend to beat themselves occasionally. So i don't know if i want to include the in a meta-gauntlet. But thanks anyway for the advice. ;)

Deck Lists / UWR Midrange/Twin

As i intensified my preparations for the HL-Cup in Hanau, i came across some questions regarding decklists of this archetypes, especially this list: http://mtgpulse.com/event/18160#256484
I don't know if the pilot of this list is active here in the forums, but i'm sure some of the Berlin guys know something about the list. ;)

1. Are the double-white cards (Brimaz, Finks, Council's Judgement) really worth littering your manabase with all these mediocre multicolour lands?
2. As you have no chance to tutor up a creature for the combo, isn't Imperial Recruiter an option? You already have some other nice targets for him in the deck.
3. Already playing Enlightened Tutor, don't you want at least one "removal enchantment" like O-Ring?
4. Is Chandra Pyromaster really that good to play her over the various other options at planeswalkers?
5. Are you sure, you don't need Force of Will and/or Mental Misstep in a deck going for tempo-plays like this?
6. Is saw you had Anger of the Gods in the Decks in past tournaments. What's the reason to play Slagstorm over it? Or better, why isn't Anger's effect not good enough compared to the option of burning your opponent?
7. No Karakas, no Wasteland seems like a big flaw to me. I can understand your demand for good mana, but as i wrote earlier, i don't know is it's worth it.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Thx so far guys!

@Tony: Like Vazdru said, i think you have to expect some amount of Izzet, because it is so good against the best decks in the format.

@GoblinPiledriver: Quite the percentages. Can you explain the numbers? I.e. where did you get them from?

@Vazdru: I don't think, all decks are Tier 1 or 1.5, but your Tier 1 decks seem like a really good selection except Artifacts.

@Ball.Lightning: I don't think a gauntlet should depend on your deck. You want to try to picture the expected metagame as good as possible.

@all: I think you need a "benchmark deck" in every gauntlet. For me this is MonoR in Highlander.

Hey guys,
with the Highlander Cup just a couple of weeks away, what decks would you suggest for a competitive testing gauntlet?
Currently i'm including 4cBlood, UWx Control, UR Midrange, PatternRector, MonoR, maybe Eggs.
Am i missing something crucial? And is there a deck you would dismiss immediatly?
Thx for any advice.
