4c goodstuff aggro won vs Jund aggro 2:1

WW won vs BUG-Oath 2:1

Storm won vs UR-Control 2:0

RDW won vs 4C-BloodAggro 2:0

22 years old Christoph Alsheimer from Fürth won with a quite innovative TPS.dec in his first Highlander Cup (GP)
he was faster than aggro and control decks were prepared to deal with creatures - so they often had some dead cards while playing vs TPS

i faced him round 4
g1: felt good having daze, force of will, Mystic Snake, Venser, Mana-Dude / after counter-war (probe, 2x fow, pact, counterspell, Mystic Snake) he played Mox, Dark Ritual for 9 copies of Tendrils (me at 17 lps) - i didn't know which deck he plays and killed myself by starting that counter-war (wanted to get Snake resolve to have a clock)
g2: had again venser, snapcaster, force of Will and was able to put some pressure on the board, T3 he transmutes Tolaria West for Pact of Negation, a turn before i can kill him he plays angel's grace + ad nauseam with counter-backup and draws his libary for tendrils win

I went 4-1-2 with aggroish Bant (list below) and finished 22nd which is the first place without prices  :'(. I wanted to play another deck but did not find time to finetune an test it enough, so I choose a deck which - I thought - I could pilot best. However, I played horrible during the tournament, so 4-1-2 is a complimentary result for me this time. I have to accept that you need to play more often to be good. Playing once a month is insufficient to keep a certain level of play.

I lost against WW and drawed against 4C aggro and UWR Midrange. Wins against RDW, Jund Aggro, ?Big Naya? and Ub Staxx.

WW is a tough matchup (when WW curves, which he did) but I had the chance to win as I had board control in the 3rd game but lost against a topdecked Restoration Angel which also untapped a Shadow creature which was down from Dungeon Geists. The draw against 4C aggro was unnecessary as I made several bad decisions during the match. The draw against UWR was acceptable as we both made some smaller mistakes.

The metagame was full of 3-5C aggro and goodstuff, but at least the Top 8 paints another picture.

Best play of the day: Mana Drain something, Vial in GoST eot. Playing Elpeth with the mana and attack for 9 flying for the win.
Worst play of the day: not using Karakas against a card drawing Edric
Coolest game situation: Sower of Temptation for Wurmcoil Engine ftw, while getting mindslavered two times in a row in the meantime.

I used the list of Sebastian Ziesche from Karlsruhe with just a few minor changes:
http://mtgpulse.com/event/7351#101162

He won last GP with that list and also some smaller TNM-Tournaments in Karlsruhe.

It wasn't the first pick but as all my testdecks (Esper-ComboControl, RDW, Naya, Grixis-AggroControl) weren't able to deal with that Bant i decided just to play it.

It worked well in the beginning, Briberies and Natural Orders gave me an army of Primeval Titans, 6 games and 6 straight wins.

Then i faced Storm which was unstoppable that day, crucial match 5 vs Quarterfinalist Tim Riedel. Had worse draws (flooded) and didn't played my best magic so i wasn't able to beat him. As it was almost over in game 2 I topdecked Primeeval Titan to hardcast and gave him a little fight in the end, but Sylvan Library + Dark Confidant on his side for many turns were too good. He had 6 lp and I gambled to kill him next turn and refused to block his 5/5 dragon with Celestial Cannonade so Blightning finished me off to zero in g2.

Best board situation of the day: Aether Vial on 3, Crystal Shards, Eternal Witness in play and Mana Drain in gy
Worst situation: Keep one land and spoils for 6 -> no land, Mulligan to 6 for one-land-hand, Brainstorm (-> 3 nonlands) and concede (1 min of play)

I snatched the last 15 point standing with prizes (sorry Bjoern!) with this:

Lands (31):
1 Wooded Foothills
1 Polluted Delta
1 Misty Rainforest
1 Scalding Tarn
1 Flooded Strand
1 Arid Mesa
1 Windswept Heath
1 Bloodstained Mire
1 Verdant Catacombs
1 Marsh Flats
1 Tropical Island
1 Bayou
1 Scrubland
1 Underground Sea
1 Tundra
1 Volcanic Island
1 Savannah
1 Taiga
1 Badlands
1 Darkslick Shores
1 Underground River
1 Watery Grave
1 Llanowar Wastes
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Yavimaya Coast
1 Breeding Pool
1 Gemstone Mine
1 Swamp
1 Island
1 Forest
1 Shelldock Isle (Doomsday, Emrakul)

More fast mana (9):
1 Lotus Petal
1 Lotus Bloom
1 Chrome Mox
1 Mox Diamond (?, hell to mulligan with but need fast mana)
1 Dark Ritual
1 Utopia Sprawl (?, because *then* wasteland is gg)
1 Manamorphose (Helps also with initiating the Doomsday combo)
1 Pentad Prism
1 Squandered Resources (!)

Counters & Disrupt (22):
1 Mental Misstep
1 Force of Will
1 Misdirection
1 Daze
1 Dispel
1 Spell Snare
1 Disrupt
1 Flusterstorm (!)
1 Force Spike
1 Spell Pierce
1 Cabal Therapy (gets oathed gamekeeper too)
1 Duress
1 Inquisition of Kozilek
1 Thoughtseize
1 Addle
1 Castigate
1 Negate
1 Miscalculation
1 Mana Leak
1 Evasive Action
1 Remand
1 Mana Drain

Draw/Tutor/Cantrips (26):
1 Gitaxian Probe (Cabal Therapy, to combo or not to)
1 Chromatic Star
1 Chromatic Sphere
1 Darkwater Egg (all of these eggs enable same turn Doomsday kill, smoothens mana and draw too)
1 Sensei's Divining Top
1 Brainstorm
1 Ponder
1 Preordain
1 Enlightened Tutor (Oath)
1 Demonic Consultation (Only worth tutoring with this if Emrakul already in hands. Risk dying mitigated by deck size and being multiple two parts. Definitely wins more than causes losses). (!)
1 Gamble
1 Sylvan Tutor
1 Worldly Tutor
1 Personal Tutor
1 Time of Need
1 Eladamri's Call (Due to these 5 creature tutor, finding Emrakul always easier than finding outlet)
1 Lim Dul's Vault (bad with Channel route)
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Tainted Pact (only stop and take is Emrakul)
1 Worldly Counsel
1 Peer Through Depths (lots of targets, makes Demonic Consultation and Shelldock Isle better)
1 Impulse
1 Intuition
1 Cruel Tutor (Pending. Life loss)
1 Rhystic Tutor
1 Grim Tutor (Pending. Life loss, double black)

Utility (6):
1 Chain of Vapor
1 Noxious Revival (Intuition piles, doomsday-kills)
1 Dream's Grip (Doomsday, if opponent has life 15 > 30, also eot hoses opponent's counter mana, buys time against random critters)
1 Devastation Tide
1 Vindicate (Karakas, Maze of Ith)
1 Supreme Verdict (pending)

Combo counterparts (in order of importance) (6):
1 Channel
1 Show and Tell
1 Oath of Druids
1 Doomsday
1 Gamekeeper (Cabal Therapy)
1 Sneak Attack

Win (1):
1 Emrakul, the Aeons Thorn

I managed to pull out couple of times 2nd. turn emrakul's (from play) but mostly combo kills happened on turn 4 or five. I won zoo, couple of bants, bw discard and something I didn't get to see properly. Lost to curved zoo and bug-oath-control.

I have now knowledge how to improve the build, so until next time.

Thanks for the work! Admitted it's a pretty mixed T8, yet a little creature heavy though. But the deck diversity is great.

I like to see all the nonbasic land hate there since it shows that B2B / Moon / Ruination + PoP etc. are still quite effective which provides some food for thoughts for the fetchland ban discussion (some people are of the opinion that fetchlands render nonbasic hate somewhat 'useless').

Small Tournament report from myself:

After talking with Tabris about deck options a couple of days before christmas I proceeded to build a creatureless staxx deck in Esper colors and asked Lash as my favourite Staxx player for some input on card choices/missed options. After arriving at our rented flat near Hanau I decided to also add green for crop rotation and Wargate. The deck was build around Tabernacle/Mana Denial and screwing everybodies Metagame expectations by playing no creatures but instead including allstars such as Torpor Orb etc.

R1: 4/5c Staxx
G1:
He has a quicker start and supplies quite some pressure with Tamiyo/Tanglewire lockdown and applies beats with sundering Titan. I make some bad choices but finally find Cyclonic Rift in a Memory Jar activation  ;D My opponent has to destroy his last two permanents staying on the battlefield with his sundering Titan triggers and discards his complete board at the end of my turn due to Jar trigger.
G2:
My opponent starts with Workshop + Trinisphere. I curse the council for allowing both cards at the same time and have to discard two times before finally finding my third land to escape the lock to start wrathing away a Grave Titan. My opponent follows up with a Inferno Titan and I colne it with phyrexian Metamorph (my only creature which my freinds convinced me to play). Obvoiusly my opponent then tries to Bribery into a solution for the dilemma which does not work out so well for him... . After he attacks with his Titan and we trade I gain control of the game with a Tezz.v1 and win shortly afterwards.

R2/R3:
I have no memory for one of those games. I believe I played a typical 4c midrange deck.

Other round:
I play against a 4c base green deck.
G1:
He resolves a Primeval titan and fetches quite a few land (I belive 6 in total), However he taps out for a Twonship activation in his turn. I play Sphinx revelation and draw Tabernacle plus Rising Waters. I take one more Titan hit and then wrath. I gain control of the game at two life and start to inch back up with pristine talisman. I find a Rishadan Port to lock down his mana development and when I can resolve The Abyss my opponent sccops since he is annoyed and does not believe to have outs. This game lasted a long time.
G2:
My opponent Natural orders into Terrastodon on T3 and kills my board. He then pulses my token next turn and kills me quickly.
G3:
My opponent Natural orders into Terrastion on T3 and goes for my board again. Luckily I already have 2 signets this time amd am on the play. Since time is being called I use my Metamorph after plying grim monolith and everflowing chalice for x = 0 to blow up my board some more with a copied Terrastodon. All the sudden I have 27 points of Power on board. My opponent takes 6 dmg from the first wave and dies in my next attack step.

R4:
I play against Christian Hauck which I know from some PTQ and Highlander tournaments before.

G1:
He has a very quick start and even tough I had put him on 4c Blood aggro I can not establish control.
G2:
This game is much more drawn out because I have both Tabernacle and Maze really slowing him down. I Ponder, Brainstorm, and Brqainstorm with Jace while using shuffle effects but can not find any wrath effect over 10. turns. I finally die to Acidic slime and Fyndhorn elf damage. I am somewhat annoyed about my unlucky draw but Christian played tight, yet still friendly and I believe I could have maybe done better decisions in one or two cases. I really missed Cursed totem in both games.

R5:
I play against Janne? from the finnish delegation here.

I remember that we finished 3 games in about 15 minutes. One game I get goldfished on turn 4 or 5 I think. One game I wrath t4, on t5 he has to tap all his (non basic) lands to play two new threats and I skillfully cantrip into Back to Basics plus Tabernacle on my turn... . In the third game I mana drain a Garrk on T3 or 4 and use the extra mana to play and activate Helm while casting Rest in Peace with my lands...

R6:
G1:
My opponent starts with T1 Mox plus Fetch into Volcanic. On t3 he plays cabal therapy naming Mana drain. I realize he is on Angry Hermit at this point but can not stop the casting of Hermit on t4 and the kill on T5... .
G2:
I find a hand with Enlightened Tutor. I find and resolve Rest in Peace. My opponent curses and I really enjoy myself. I continue with Back to Basics. When I tutor for Humility he scoops.
G3:
My opponent announces that he wishes to keep his seven cards... I imagine Hemit Druid in hand with FoW backup and lands to cast and activate Hermit. I mull to 6 since my hands neither includes hate or lands. I mull 5 cards in my 6 card hand keeping Anceint tomb and get a hand that is capable to generate 4 Mana on T2. My opponent Probes on his T2 to see no hate and casts Hermit Druid. My hope flares up that he might not have Force of Will. I rip a Wrath that obviously gets Force of Willed. I die on T3. My opponent relly enjoys himself and shows me the Pact of Negation he still had in hand.

R7:
I play against UW Midrange
G1:
I loose against Simulacrum and some Dude with Sword of Feast and Famine which both vant be killed by The Abyss.
G2:
I resolve early planeswalkers and win with  a scoop to Winter Orb/Tamiyo lock.
G3:
We fight a somewhat longer battle for attrition but I resolve a Torpor Orb just in time to turn an otherwise killer Fact or Fiction into a less seroius matter (flip was Stoneforge Mystic, Image, Suspend bounce guy, Reveilark, Knight of the white orchid. My opponent chosses knight plus lark. I use icy manipulator effects etc. to make good wrath situations and can protect my self for a long time. When he finally finds a non creatrue threat in Jace, i topdeck into the missing piece for the Helm combo and win before the board sitution goes out of control.

I finish in 16th place with a 5-2 record. My opponents cast Bribery against me 3 times missing every time ;-)

1 Natural Order
1 Nature's Lore
1 Personal Tutor
1 Ponder
1 Preordain
1 Rampant Growth
1 Scapeshift
1 Search for Tomorrow
1 Slagstorm
1 Three Visits

1: Fabian Junk

Fabian played some bears until I drew Firespout. He got Loll Troll and Rancor for some damage until he decided to tapout for something stupid and there went his team again.

1-0

Kierros 2: Danilo Naya

I had Scapeshift in my opening, so I just ramped and chumped until I dealt 21 at once. In 2nd game we played this and that until I drew Scapeshift and that was 21 again.

2-0

3: Matthias Ur control

I got Loam going 1st game and his Blood Moon did not really disrupt. I mulliganed to 6 in the 2nd one and was annihilated by Clique wearing WR sword and not finding 2nd green source. 3rd game looked good when I drew Natural Order from his Clique, but he had Control Magic for it with Spellskite backup.

2-1

4: Felix 4c Landstill

Felix started with classical Landstill, miss a land drop. I hit him for some with Dryad Arborilla until he broke Landstillin with his Humilityllaan. Garruk the Relentless took it home for me with his tokens.

I was met with fast Moat in the 2nd game and was forced to burn him down from 16. I started with setupping Bonfire for 8, and after a fetchland and a red titan he was at 4. I played sandbagged Siege-Gang Commanderin with mana up. Felix tried Crop Rotation and found Cabal Pitin, which was used in response to ETB-trigger so that I could not sacrifice goblin tokens. Then he killed me off in his turn.

In 3rd game I had Cobra and suspended Search, whish got Mana Drained. He went Intuition Loam but no land drop as I gave him cycling land. Then I topdecked a land to Acidic Slime his and that was it.

3-1

5: Adrian BUG Oath

Adrian played Gamekeeper and killed it, getting Rune-Scarred Demonin. Then he killed and reanimated it and all that nonsense. I got to Bribery him next game, but had no good tutor targets in my deck except maybe 6th land so I took Emrakul. I forgot he had Vraska in his deck and thus hand as I hadn't seen it. Couple of turn later he hard casted Griselbrand, also hiding in his hand.

3-2

6: Dennis UW Blink

I lost 2-1, nothing really interesting happened.

3-3

I was not satisfied with the results, though playing against 4 blue-based control decks in a row might just qualify as a tough luck in pairings. But my opponents were great, friendly and sportsmanlike, and I got to meet some great people from here, like Magi, MMD and CristophO (Vazdru and Firestarter I had already met before).
