Deck Lists / pulse decklists

For purely selfish reasons (and consistency), is it possible to "ask" people who add decks lists in the pulse,  with their deck name in english (for example: Das beste Bant der Welt) i google translate it into Best bant in the world... :P

This would help the non-german community. Thanks

Well, gifts is a no surprise. It has been on the edge of being banned for a long time now, although i was a in favour of not banning it, i can understand. Its a game turning card.

Trinisphere: ABout time, to test this one! :P
Wheel of fortune: bit more dangerous that time twister, mainly because of 1) aggro, 2) availability/price

Please don't band SDT! :)

New Editions / [COMM] review
18-06-2011, 04:14:55 PM
Well, not a new edition per si, but still worth reviwing...

White:

Soul snare - Cute and if enchantress saw some play, this is an auto-include.

Blue:

Flutterstorm - very good, IMO. Too bad is restricted too instants and sorceries... :P Well see some play, IMO

Mind aglow - After reading "joining forces" better. ::) i think this was is still worth playing in some combo decks.

Trench gorger - Quite an interesting fatty, but i believe it to be highly susceptile to removal.

Black:

Sewer nemesis - The single B in it cost might make it worth it, since you still can choose even you.

Red:

Chaos warp - hmmm... a pseudo-removal at instant speed! and splashable. Would hate to kill a 2/2 and having to deal with a progenitus or a PW, though.  You can even play it on your own for the lulz.

Death by dragons - Epic in multpilayer. lol

Stranglehold - kills off fetches.. but at 4 CMC?!

Green:

Scavening ooze - One of the best cards in the set. Splashable, very nice body for its CMC. relevant abilities. Quite good, might even test in my 5cc

Multicolor

Animar, soul of elements - cute, but ackward cost..

Edric - with the ooze, the best card in the set. very, very playable.

Kaalia of the vast - sexy! makes me wanna build around it :P

Karador - quite expensive, but cute in mid games can be a power bomb, specially if survival was still around.

Ruhan - ackward cost, but still a 7/7

Lands

Homeward path - well, i really dont see the fuss about this one, yes it makes your progenitus not so vulnerable to bribery, but still one in 100. Not in anyway broken, IMO.

New Editions / [NPH] reviews
22-04-2011, 06:07:36 PM
Another set another review:

non artifact colorless

Karn - well, obviously it seems playable, 7 mana, colorless means it can be easily dumped into play with some kinf of accell. We have yet to know completely what it's ultimate does.

White:

Blade splicer - Not very bad, but for 3 CMC there are lot of better stuff out there.

Chancellor of the annex - more bluish than whitish, but ok. The reveal ability is quite powerful and our mull makes it slightly better, however too circunstacial and too big of a CMC to be very competitive, IMO.

Norn's annex - Well, moat doesn't see much play these days, and i believe this to be a bit worse than moat.

Phyrexian unlife - screams to be broken, but probably not in our format.

Remember the fallen - Not that bad, but not very good either. It goes well with the stuffy doll combo (via gifts)

Blue:

Gitaxian probe - I really don't like this phybrid 1 mana spells. This one is quite useful for combos, i'm looking at you TPS (hurray free spells)

Mental mistep - don't know if it's playable, but all colors getting counters screws a bit with the color pie, IMO.

Phyrexian metamorph - One of my favorites cards of the set. Very versatile and easily castable, again available to all colors. Might just see some play.

Psychic barrier - lol, carry on.

xenograft - don't know if this is breakable, but i heard ppl talking about allies. At that CMC it won't see play in our format.

Black:

Despise - With so much creature love, this ain't bad. But i mostly see this in MBC (or rock variants) which isn't that good of a deck

Dismember - agaian available to all colors, might lead to some aggro playing with this, since basically it's a 1 CMC removal..

Phyrexian obliterator - Akward, akward mana cost, but if playing with suic B or MBC would play this for sure!

Praetors grasp - again the cost (double B) + being sorcery makes it not so good. You're probably better off with your own tutors.

Sheoldred the whispering one - Not a bad target for reanimation, but there is better! Also for the CMC would definitely go with the titans.

Red:

Act of agression - Quite good in aggro, deserves testing at least.

Chancellor of the forge - first turn this, mountain, goblin guide, go! In our format too uncertain, but in other formats, might just see some play.

Geosurge - Cute card to play with your dragons! Still it means getting you 7 mana in your 4th turn, although you pretty red mana intensive, playable? Let's see.

Gut shot - free spell, is a free spell. might see some play, because it's available to all colors...

Moltensteel dragon - turn 4 playable? turn 5 go for 10 damage (if you were at 20).

Slag fiend - Not goyf material, but still, if you play with loads of cantriping artifacts, might be fun.

whipfire - nice board sweeper. Can't say for sure if would play this or firespout...

Green:

Beast within - one of the best cards of the set. Kills everything at instant speed. Would have expect to see this say: "destroy nonland permanent".

Birthing pod - one of the most talked about cards. It's no survival, but it's definitely playable, IMO.

Chancellor - can this be abusable in legacy/vintage? free mana is always free mana, in our format? too inconsistent IMO.

Fresh meat - the bear doesnt see much play, so this wont either.

Melira - quite interesting, i believe it combos with the white enchantment in this set (not sure, though...) But very cool design. :)

Mutagenic growth -  free spell is a free spell

Multicolor:

Jor kadeen - well, this seems completely off the set, IMO. But don't know the story, so, possible makes more sense if i knew. But bad card.

Artifacts:

batterskull - one of my favorite cards of the set. Seems extremely powerful. good for control and aggro, IMO. Being mythical probably means it will be expensive. Kind of reminds of BSA.

Darksteel relic - go, go metalcraft.

Etched monstrosity - ahhh, if only the meta was slower.

Hex parasite - playable, but still i prefer the needle.

Isolation cell - too expensive too see any play, i believe.

Sword of war and peace - better swords out there, but still playable.

Torpor orb -  Too circunstancial IMO.

Well, there it goes. Any obvious ones i left out?

New Editions / [SOM] review
22-09-2010, 11:52:29 PM
Another set another review, mostly regarding our dear format.

White:
Elsepth tirel - well, PW are very good in our format, this is no exception. A bit harder to work with than elsepth 1.0, but quite good too.

Glint hawk - In our format, i don't know, but this one will definitely see some play, specially with the memnite.

Leonin arbiter - Good card for WW, other than that i think avenmindcensor is probably better.

Myrsmith - they really pushed myr in this set. But i don't think it will be that viable in our format, nontheless there are some interesting myr/myr related cards and this one is not that bad.

Sunblast angel - Interesting, vs aggro, but for 6 mana it might be a bit too late, also i think i'd go for a titan over this or even a BSA.

Blue:

Argent sphinx - Metalcraft is quite good, and even in non-artifact heavy decks it's quite often that a player gets 3 artifacts in play. back to the card: reasonable CMC/stats and once metalcraft is up really nasty to kill.

Dissipation field - Moat is a bit underplayed right now, so this one won't see much play too.

Shape anew - Quite interesting. But needs building around to work.

Stoic retbuttal - May i write strictly better than cancel? We have much better stuff than this and at least they didn't reprint cancel.

Turn aside - cheap efficient counter for Skies and such.

Fume spitter - Not that bad.

geth, lord of the vault - Reusable recursion is always good, however it's a bit costy, if MBC was a viable deck, this could find a home in it. B staxx?

Hand of praetors - Infect is quite a good way to kill a player, however i think there are still few (playable) cards with it to form a deck. However this one is quite good, cheap and doesn't need to deal damage to put on those poison counters on you. If there's gonna be a infect deck, this + the draon are the ones making it viable, IMO.

Necrotic ooze - It seems comboish... but i haven't read any that can brake it.

Psychic miasma - Not that bad addition to cheap discard. And at least it won't be that bad hitting that land in late games.

Skinrender - Playble IMO. I'm almost tempted at trying this one instead of FTK, but the double BB is a bit hars for my 5cc. Still good card.

Skithiryx the blight dragon - One of my favourite cards of this set! Great pic, nice CMC for its stats. Infect!! This one might just see some play, will definitely see in EDH. Although have no idea why skeleton and no zombie, even that image reminds me of a zombie than skeleton. But still, it has some nice flavour in it.

Red:
Arc trail - For aggro there is better burn, IMO. for more controlissh, it's not that bad, but still you probably have better options.

Galvanic blast - Is it worthing packing your RDW or Rx something with artifacts because of this? Aether vial, artifact lands, moxs... seems playable. Also, strictly better than shock.

Koth of the hammer - Another PW, another playable card IMO. 2nd ability can be used for combos? i think there is better stuff, no?

Kuldotha phoenix - An actually playable phoenix! WOW. Still i'm not sure whether no R in the metalcraft is good or bad. I'm gonna start counting how many times i get 3 or more artifacts in play...

Tunnel ignus - Playable? you can easily work around it vs it. So for 2 CMC you probably have better stuff.

Green:

Carapace forger - Green probably got the best metalcraft creatures, however there arent many G artifacts decks, are there?

Ezuris brigade? 4 CMC 8/8? not bad.. but same as above.

Genesis wave - Another card that i think screams to be broken. Ramp decks.

Putrefax - No ball lightning, but in multiple might work. BG infect deck?

Viridian ravel - Not bad, could see some use.

Multicolor:
Venser, the sojourner - Great PW. Combos well with ETB abilities. will definitely see play.

Artifacts:

Darksteel axe - pretty powerful and hard to get rid of...

Darksteel juggernaut - not bad in artifact heavy decks, still i'm guessin it won't see play.

Liquimetal coating - I already see the huge rules questions this one will bring. Not bad in other formats, i guess.

Memnite - seriously? Seriously? =/ oh, well. Will most probably see play.

Mimic vat - ahh, very interesting design. I think this one will definitely see play. Good in aggro since you can have recorrent threats, good in control. Can make nifty tricks with ETB abilities. Also combos well, with the new wurmcoil engine. Very, very powerful. I vote best card in set.

Molten-tail masticore - well, you have to exile a creature, but 4 damage to a player seems powerful. But discarding + exiling every turn seems harsh.

Mox opal - Well, if you want to ramp your aggro, it's bad, but in stax, with a staring workshop this can be in the table turn 2 easily. so, not bad. Don't want to see the price this will get if it sees some competitive play.....

Myr battlesphere - Cute. but 7 cmc is bad...

Myr galvanizer - quite good, if a myr deck arises, this one will definitely see play.

Myr propagator - same as above. comboish?

Myr reservoir - Same as above, they really are trying to push myr. lol

Nim deathmantle - the big equipment of the set, IMO. not only does it pump + intimidated, but it can get your creatures. The lack of B on the card, makes it for bad design IMO. Guess thi is going to see play.

Platinum emperion - cute and flavourful. but i guess we have platinum angel.

Ratchet bomb - a lot of hype about this one, i don't see really why, at least for our format. Way too slow and preditacble.

Semblance anvil - hmm, quite interesting.

Strata scythe - in mono color decks (looking at you WW) it might be well testing it.

Sword of body and mind - probably the worst sword of the trio.

Vulshock replica - decent, but probably too slow for 3 cmc.

Wurmcoil engine - ahh, pretty nice, although this screams multicolor, IMO. I won't probably test it, since i'm avoiding high CMC spells, but this one is pretty, pretty decent.

Lands:
Nothing very exciting here. I was hoping for a couple more of lands, but guess no.

Well, i probably miss a couple of interesting/good cards. Discussion and comments are always welcome.

Just noticed that http://www.magicplayer.org/forum/index.php?topic=2.0 hasn't been updated with the new bannings/unbannings (LFTL, LoA, etc..). Should be updated to avoid problems with our HLL.

Thanks :)

New Editions / [SOM] spoiler

So, we already have a couple of cards and one seems quite impressive, IMO:

Wurmcoil engine
6
Artifact creature - wurm
Deathtouch, Lifelink
When Wurmcoil Engine is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, put a 3/3 colorless Wurm artifact creature token with deathtouch and a 3/3 colorless Wurm artifact creature token with lifelink onto the battlefield.
6/6

Highly playable, mythic rarity, probably means highly expensive... =/
I like the design behind this one.

New Editions / [M11] review
11-07-2010, 03:24:29 PM
Another set, another review. As a highlander player i'm glad core editions now have new cards, even though some are functional reprints which IMO kind of suck for our format, anyway, here goes my review of M11 regarding (mostly) Highlander:

white:

ajani pridemate: Not that i think it's playable, but i think it's a nice well design and flavoured card.

Angelic arbiter: Interesting card, creates nice tension vs aggro. But high CMC makes this a bit unplayable unless you cheat him into play. Also nice in multiplayer.

Knight exemplar: Good enough for knights to become relevant? IMO, no...

Leyline of sanctity: Interesting, but too random in HL.

Serra ascendant: WW playable? Although you won't get it to 6/6 very often

Sun titan - Titans are pretty impressive, IMO. They have a relevant ETB ability, so if they get STP or whatever they still did something, and if they get a swing it even becomes better, so definitely playable, although in the right decks, since they have a high CMC.

war priest of Thune - playable

Blue:

Aether adept - good, bue we have man-o-war.

Augury owl - Playable.

Cancel - lol, moving on....

Conundrum sphinx - Not a very relevant ability, but 4 CMC for a 4/4 flyer isn't very common in blue.

Frost titan - not the best of the bunch...

Leyline of antecipation - Interesting, but again a bit random in our format.

Preordain - Good, but no brainstorm.

Stormtide leviathan - How i wish this had a lower CMC. moat isn't as playable as it was, so unless you cheat this into play (and even then...) this won't see play. But interesting design.

Time reversal - timetwister hasn't seen much play (money issues?!) so will this see?

Black:

Dark tutelage - It's no dark confidant, and IMO if you can pay BB you're better off with arena.

Grave titan - one of the best IMO.

Phylactery lich - BBB for a 5/5? not bad, but since it doesn't have any kind of evasion and don't think it's worth it. Interesting design nontheless

Reassembling skeleton - well, if you need "infinite" sac upkeep cost, this is your dude.

Viscera seer - One the most flavourfull cards of this expansion. And i think they could have upped the scry to 2, imo.

Red:

Arc runner - Well, no trample makes this a lot, lot worse than a ball lightning.

Combust - nice anti BSA card. hehe

Destructive force - Nothing very new here but will definitely see play since it creates redudancy.

Ember hauler - Playable, although mogg fanatic effects used to be better...

Hoarding dragon - nice flavorfull card

Inferno titan - better than frost.

Pyretic ritual - it's no dark ritual, but playable in combos.

Green:

Fauna shaman - Interesting design and a big coincidence that after we banned survival we get "survival creature". We definitely see play, although far beyond the power level of the original card.

Gaes revenge - Hard to deal with once it's in play. Too high CMC to be playable?!

Hornet sting - this is strange... a pure non-restrictive burn green spell. won't brake our format, so i'm ok with it.

Mitotic slime - interesting design and good vs removal.

Obstinate baloth - nice card, although i don't see it being played much.

Primeval titan - one of the best, IMO. valakut comes into mind.

Sylvan ranger - one of the best commons. will definitely see play.

Artifact:

Crystal ball - lol at the name. not good enouhg, IMO.

Sword of vengeance - one of the best cards in this set. Very powerful.

Lands:

Mystifyin maze - bad, bad card IMO. If you could blink your creatures it would be very good, but right now, it sucks.

Well, here it is: Any obvious miss outs? Comments are welcome as always. Let the discussions begins :)

New Editions / [RoE] spoiler!
02-03-2010, 08:40:12 PM
Well, pretty impresive. Some facts:
- if you cheat him into play you don't get to draw
- NOT an artifact.

Playable? i think it can do wonders in artifacts deck that run a lot of mana accel or even elves, those little buggers can easily get to 10 mana quickly. The fact that you get to draw 4 cards make it worth dying next turn/eot?!
#14
New Editions / [WWK] Review
29-01-2010, 08:18:13 PM
Well, another expansion has been spoiled and it's time to write a short review regarding our format, so here goes:

White:

Kor firewalker - Good in WW vs RDW, but depending on the meta i'd prefer to play something with evasion or first strike.

Loam lion - yet another powerful drop for naya and zoos. Great card, probably the best white one for the set, but bad design IMO.

Stoneforge mystic - Not bad, 2nd turn drop, getting you that SoFI or another good equipment.

Blue:

Aether tradewinds - Nice trick card, specially if you're playing with ETB effects.

Dispel - Meh.. Probably force spike is better.

Jace, the mind sculptor - good walker, the +2 will never be played while you can have a brainstorm effect, boomerang is a nice -, the ultimate is game winning but to get there just sucks. Still thinking whether this or the old jace

Permafrost trap - like the rest of the cycle, these are just too conditional. C'mon WOTC this could have been a great control card without warping or breaking any format!

Sejiri Merfolk - Not bad for a UW deck for its cost.

Spell contortion - 5 mana for a possible counter and a draw? mehh

Thada adel, the acquisitor - This i like, cute design. Will it see play? Probably not

Treasure hunt - Probably the best blue from the bunch (this or the walker). Makes me want to see a 42land deck archtype in HL

Black:

Abyssal persecutor - Interesting design, great in suicidal or MBC if you can easily get rid of it. Was hoping for a more epic creature because of its picture, though.

Anowon, the ruin sage - yet, almost another good control card: too expensive, too killable, no evasion or relevant combat ability. At least it's better than the Magus of the abyss

Death's shadow - Nice design, but only casual play, at least i can't see a way to abuse it.

Kalastri highborn - Nice creature.

Ruthless cullblade - Nice, cheap vampire.

Red:

Cosis ravager - All fetches are now a shock, not bad, but probably there is better out there.

Dragonmaster outcast - Well, one of the most talked about card of the expansion. Bad first drop, but great afterwards, easy to cast and only needs to survive 1 turn to be relevant. Can easily see this making some HL matches, too bad it's mythic..

Spoiling terrain - Can easily deal a lot of damage vs graveyard decks, but too conditional/expensive

Searing blaze - Nice burn, too bad the double RR makes it less splashable. great in aggro and control that has easily access to RR

Stone idol trap - Nice desing, but wish they made it easier to cast. the 6/12 is just overkill, lool. They could easily have dropped the P/T on this.

Green:

Arbor elf - nice llanowar variant. Great design.

Explore - Interesting card, the cantrip ensures this doesn't sucks. Will probably see some play.

Joraga warcaller - Nice elf for elf decks, probably one of the few that multikicker is actually relevant and playable.

Leatherback baloth - Nice vanilla creature. playable in MGA? it lacks evasion or any relevant combat ability, but it has a nice body...

Omnath locus of mana - Certainly no goyf, but can easily grow a lot, specially in elf decks where G mana is plentiful.

Multicolor:

These 2 cards really seem a bit out of the expansion, at least for me, since i don't know it's storyline....

Novablast wurm - timmy card

Wrexial, the risen deep - the name just makes me LOL. Good casual card, the evasions are a nice bonus. and it's has a good body for it's CMC. EDH will love this.

Colorless:

Amulet of vigor - Perhaps there's a nice combo/trick for this...

Lodestone golem - Nice for staxx, but not very relevant, not even finisher worthy

Razor boomerang - this makes the review for the worse card in the set (although good in limited) I read this 10x, but every time it sucked. Unless i'm missing something here. And i'm all for flavour cards, but this one.. just sucks.

Seer's sundial - Still thinking a lot about this one. Mind's eye, although 1 more mana, ensures "every turn" an extra draw (at least) this is conditional and costs 2 mana to activate, which by the way, WOTC totally sucks in terms of design, if there were more landfadll abilties like this one, ok, but making this one the only one, just means, IMHO, that they couldn't figure out how to balance it...

Lands:

Bojuka bog - The best of the cycle, extremely powerful. I thought at first it removed only 1 card, but it's even better than i first thought very, very playable.

Celestial colonade - All of these are great. I'm still unsure which ones are best, but they will definitely see play, all of them.

Creeping tar pits - Again great, 3/2 unblockable and hard to kill is always nice

Eye of ugin - Great! i like these lands, although right now not playable at all (and probably not in the future too) , i've always liked non-mana producing lands, or at least no directly mana producing.

Halimar depths - not bad, but with so many nonsabic hate you've got to choose your nonbasics very carefully.

Raging ravines - one of the best, IMO. very relevant ability, can be activate more than once for multiple counters and the counters stay, can quickly grow into big menace.

Stiring wildwood- This one i'm gonna test in my 5CC. cheap and efficient manland.

Overall:
Well, for me the biggest problem with this set was the large amount of vampires and allies which is a bit bad for our format, since neither are very relevant, i believe.
Multikicker seemed a bit underwhelming and the "blue is getting some strongs cards" was the overstatement of the year, IMO.
Although WOTC, still has clearly a "thing" for aggro and creatures this set wasn't as awful in terms of creature "power creeping" as some past sets.
Manlands are always great and i hope to see one with WUBRG activation cost. hehe

Well, let the discussion begin... Probably there were some good HL playables i missed there!

New Editions / [zen] review
27-09-2009, 06:23:45 PM
Hey, despite the fact that zendikar has some nice treasures buried it also has the deadly peril of opening, yes once again, a cancel! lol, so without further delay, here's my review of the set concerning, mainly HL.

White:

- Conqueror's pledge - Might be an interesting addition to some Wstax decks, but i think you're better off with a decree.

- day of judgment - well, this makes me a little mad, no really/huge difference from the standard WOG, so why print this? i really hate functional reprints. Good card, nontheless´.

Emeria angel - Landfall seems like a great ability, but i really don't see none that we can say it's a MUST. nice cheap angel, perhaps for WW?

Iona, shield of emeria - timmy card, i believe. Oath has better options, although this can shut completely a mono colored deck.

Luminarch ascension - Very interesting vs control and since it's quite cheap, it might just see play, nice addition to enchantress, perhaps.

Pitfall trap - Well, traps cards aren't my favorite mechanic, but this one is playable. i'd prefer exile instead of destroy...

Worldqueller - very nice creature for staxx decks, IMO.

Blue:

- Archmage ascension - great effect, hard to get. Perhaps in heartbeat like decks, where u usually draw a lot, but seems a bit slow, IMO. Plausible for enchantress.

- Into the roil - not a very bad card, everybody loves cantrips.

- Mindbreak trap - interesting vs storm decks. but at 4 CMC i have somes doubts. Do you think it can replace dissipate?

- Rite of replication - another interesting card. Legendary creature removal, etc the kicker is a bit expensive, but it migh just see some play.

- spell pierce - Now that the meta (at least in the league) isnt as creature based, this is an excellent counter, i believe. Good in skies, fish and even more mid range/control decks.

- whiplash trap - if you pull this one early it's a great tempo card, but a a bit situational.

Black:

Bloodchief ascension - This set black was given very efficient and low CMC cards. This one isn't as great as a black vise, but it can easily be reached/triggered. LFTL? ouch!

- Bloodghast - Another good black creature for suicidal black, pretty though to kill (permanently) too.

- Gatekeeper of malakir - nice creature for MBC the triple B in the cost makes it a bit bad for non-mono black decks.

- Grim discovery - My favourite card from the set . This is a nice CA and with an ability rare to black, really nice card. Also, like many ppl are testing, it combos with dark depths + gifts ungiven + the new hexamage card. (casual combo, i believe ;))

- Gruul draz vampire - not that P/T efficient early, but possiblity of intimidate in mid game is nice, but probably better stuff out there (but a vampire deck is now more close to being a reality... .P)

- needlebite trap. the CMC is horrible, but the trap cost is very, very cheap, but i think it's a bit too situational for decks that could run it?

- Sorin Markov - well, great first ability, 2nd isn't really good IMO, third is also very nice. CMC is a bit hard to pull, but i can see this being played in MBC or staxx variants that run B. really wished it wasn't so hard to cast, it looks like a good PW.

- vampire hexmage . haha, here it is the ultimate combo machine for darkdepths. lol, it can also kill a PW, but too situational, IMO.

- vampire lacerator - another goodie for suicidal black.

Red:

- Chandra - Really can't figure this one out. a bit high on the CMC, 1st and 2nd abilities aren't fantastic, but the ultimate just screams to be broken, although the "only red" makes it hard.

- elemental appeal - not as great as a ball lightning, but not very bad, too for RDW

- goblin bushwhacker - very interesting grating haste plus +1/0 might see some play in gobos.

- goblin guide - seriously? did we really needed a 2/2 for R with haste? even the drawback is very situational and not that huge.

- goblin ruinblaster - what can i say? except :( a better avalanche rider, IMO. :(

- inferno trap - i'm sad this didnt turned out a instant pyroclam for the trap cost.. oh well..

- lavaball trap - another wildfire variant? in those decks, it can probably see play.

- punishing fire - seems playable, nice vs a finks.. lol

- warren instigator - it's no lackey, but might see some play in gobos. the double strike probably makes for the other R in the cost.

Green:

- lotus cobra . a lot of hype on this one, but i believe this one works best as a 4x off in a 60 card deck, specially where it can have loads of fetchs. as for HL, it's not bad, it's a 2/1 for two that can mana accel (situational) if you play bops, noble, llanowar, u can probablya add this one too. of course there might be some weird combo to make this more broken. Overall, very good card.

- Nissa revane - well, a PW for the elves. nothing fancy.

- Oracle of mul daya - this one i really wanted to play with. But it looks a bit too slow for the abilities it carries, IMO.  although it makes wonders in one of coldcrow's deck. ;)

- quest of gemblades - easily triggered, nice pump, perhaps it will see play.

- scute mob - has the potential to be very powerful. +4/+4 every turn seems great. i'd have prefered 4 tokens, since it seemed a bit more flavoured.

- scythe tiger - yeahh.. a better rogue elephant. =( why push so much 1 cmc creatures!! great card, IMO and very hard to deal with from turn 1.

- tanglesap - and then this? a worse tangle... lol... moving on.

-vinewood - interesting card. anti removal card and in mid game a pump! not very bad.

Artifacts:

Equipemnts: Alara block gave us better equipment, IMO (although colored) , and i havent yet seen them in a HL match, so these equipemnts won't see much play, i guess...

Eternity vessel - hehe, my kind of card, Full of flavour and screaming to be played, unfortunately when it hits play it's probably too late. But fantastic card design, IMO. i really wish i could pull this one turn 1 vs aggro. hehe

Lands:

wel,, for a land block or "land matters" the land seem rather bad, IMO. Yes, i know we have the enemy fetchlands, but that's nothing i went OMG, because ever since fetches were printed at least one person would say "this is the set for enemy fetches" i wished they made
more manlands and utility lands, oh well..

- Emeria the sky ruin: too slow IMO, but if it happens to trigger it's a pain in the #@@

- Magosi the waterveil - unless i'm forgetting (could happen) some combo with this, this absolutely sucks. so i give up a turn and then get wastelanded.. lol

- Valakut  the molten pinnacle - 5 mountains? not impossible with a nice effect. guess this one is playable.

Overall:

Like all sets revolving lands, WOTC seems  bit afraid to make broken cards (same with the retace mechanic) and i think this decreases the quality of the set design for me. (don't read me wrong, i'm not asking for broken cards...). I  wished they pushed the lands a a little bit
Also like most sets, this one is far from being designed for HL/casual or vintage/legacy for that matter, so only a marginal percentage of the cards will see play in HL (and other formats aswell.) Let's hope the next expansion complements this one and for my personal wishes, less based on creature decks.

As usual any comments? Any card i leftout?

Brilliant! Another functional reprint! =/
Just what the game needed. Was the regeneration clause that important? Was the name WOG that outrageous? Seriously! M10, now this?

oh, well.

Here it is, in all its "splendor":

WW2
Sorcery
Destroy all Creatures

I guess it's for real, but spoilers have been wrong sometimes :P

Not very important news, but for those who like textless lands here go:

Having textless lands now doesn't seem as pimp as before :P

Well, the rules for planechase cards are finally in ----> http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/51
I don't know the official position, but probably these will be banned in HL?!  ???
Although i like the concept, these seem very casual and random (dice), probably something better for EDH instead. I wish the would bring back the concept of world enchantment though.

Off-Topic / ICQ problems
16-07-2009, 09:34:40 PM
Hey, sorry for this topic, but since i only use ICQ to play MTG, here goes:

Since i installed (obligatory) 6.5 version i can't seem to connect to ICQ, i went to their board and a lot of ppl were complaining! But there was an official statement saying it was solved...

Anyone has the same problem? Do i have to do something to correct it?

Thks for the time you took to read this really offtopic topic. :)

New Editions / [M10] review
04-07-2009, 08:41:46 PM
Once again a core set is released, this time it some affect on HL formats. This topic will only be used to discuss cards not rules.
So before starting let me just say that i´m really pissed off that they made so many functional reprints: essence scatter, runceclaw bear, elite vanguard. Really, really bad in terms of creativity IMO, specially if you consider HL formats which = 1 of kind, functional (playable) reprints really make me angry... anyhow, here goes:

White:
- Baneslayer angel - Huge improvement on angels. Although the protections are a bit irrelevant, they are very cool in terms of flavor, yet i prefer an exalted angel since it can deal 4 damage on turn 4, but still very playable.

- Elite vanguard - Did we really need another 2/1 1st turn drop?! Playable!

- Harm's way - This is my favorite card from the whole set. It is playable in both aggro and control. Not only does it act as a kind of life gainer, but it can act as removal. Very nice. Will probably try this out (probably in place of E. tutor)

- Honor of the pure - Don't really understand why they just didn't bring back crusade (or a functional reprint if the name bothered them...) this is just strictly better and splashable. Good card.

- Open the vaults - It's like a 2nd replenish for enchantress deck. Not very fancy. Also kind of playable in W staxx variants.

- Planar cleansing - WOTC is definitely afraid of losing aggro players... Totaly crap IMO

- Silence - Interesting, if you play with chant, you probably wanna add this one too.

Blue:

- Djinn of wishes - Really flavour card. I like it, although it won't see play, probably because it's very mana intensive!

- Sleep - This one could have been a huge bomb, but they made it really bad IMO. they could have lower its CMC, make it instant even if it had some form of drawback: "up to X creatures" (for example). Bit frustrated on this one =/ This basically saves you one turn... for that i prefer time warp, at least i get to untap/draw and my opponnent doesnt

Black:

- Child of night - Is interesting for aggro that runs B, but nothing fancy.

- Sign in blood - Another card that makes MBC (in other formats) viable again, along side duress, consume spirit, etc. However for HL i think we have a better stuff.

- Doom blade - well, we have better stuff... but agai.. had to review some cards...

Red:

- Goblin chieftain - It's no warchief, but good enough to see play in gobos.

- jackal familiar - If it was a goblin i could see it seeing some play, like this i think there are better drops.

- Magma phoenix - Another timmy card. Wish it had some form of sac ability. won't see play, But good to see phoenixes :)

Green:

- Acidic slime - Good if you can abuse CIP abilities.  although it has a big CMC i can see this play with survival.

- Elvish archdruid - If someone plays elves, then they'll probably want this too.

- Great stable stag - Although the double GG makes it a bid unsplahsble it's good for MGA because of the protections, rather than the uncounterable part.

- Protean hydra - with 4 mana you get a 3/3 which if it isn't dealt soon it can really grow fast, but very situatioanl IMO, no goyf here (at least for our format).

- Runeclaw bear - WTF?? seriously? have you read its flavor text?! is WOTC actually mocking us? moving along....

Artifact:

- Mirror of fate - This card is one the those that will tried be broken. IMO it won't at least in our format.

Lands:

- pseudo-dual lands - we're promissed powerful and exciting dual lands... i certainly wasn't expecting this. Not very playable in our format IMO, unless these become cheap, then the could see some play for ppl with a tight budget or some kind of zoo, but i think there is already good manabase to support this deck.

- Gargoyle castle - mehh ,wish it was a true manland... won't see play.

Well, that's it. Besides from some aggro stuff (neo-lions, etc) and that harm's way (IMO) there isn't any good stuff in this core set for us, won't change the meta alot.
Comments and other reviews are always welcomed.
