Metagame Masters 10 Official Reminder:

In 27 Days Metagame Mastes will celebrate its 10th tournament anniversary. MGM9 was held in July with Abzan coming out on top: What are Ixalan and the Mystical Tutor Ban going to do to the format? "Winner of MGM10" is something that would look really good on somebodys HL Resumee. There is another Championship-Title to be giving away though - "Winning Team of MGM10". For the first time we will have a team competition with extra prizes, extra fun and extra comradery. Join a team with 2 friends (or 2 strangers that will become friends) and take part in the competition. It is not a must, just a fun extra for those interested. Either way: Come to Berlin, we are looking forward to a joyful day!

Highlanders unite in Berlin! Metagame Masters will have its 8th tournament on March 4th!

What kind of impact will Aether Revolt have? Blue decks have been on a rise - 7 out of the top8 decks at the HL GP played blue. RDW is very much alive though - the Top16 of the HL GP was full of RDW. Make no mistake, that deck is here to stay. The Meta seems to be very diverse and exciting and the last tournament had a great turnout. We hope to see you for another day of fun and games!

4c Blood piloted by Tom Fischer took down the last event in dominating fashion. Who is gonna stop the Goodstuff Madness? Artifacts? Burn? Ux Midrange? Back 2 Basics.dec? Everything seems viable - the Meta is wide open. It seems like an exciting time for Highlander - maybe the "hype" surrounding new cards, new comradery in the european commuinity and stealing a bit of the canadian's limelight make our format more popular. Maybe we can have a 60+ Player Tournament. In Berlin. In Summer. What a time to be alive.

Hello Everybody!

We are super excited to announce the next tournament of our series.  

There are a couple of Reasons why the "Winter Edition Tournament" of the MGM Series will be especially exciting:

1. Oath of The Gatewatch is an incredible Set with lots of future HL Staples -  Who will identify the newest techs?
2. Highlander Castle Erfurt will have a strong showing, they announced they will come to Battle with 10 Players! Tiny City - Huge Commitment
3. Its cold outside and there will be lots of physical and emotional Warmth available at the MGM5.
4. The Format is Crazy right now! MGM4 was won by Mono Blue Tempo! What? Everything seems possible! Dust off your elves deck, give boros another try!

We've had about 50 players show for each of the tournaments so far and we would really like to grow that number a bit, so we decided to raise the Entry Fee from 10 to 15 Eur, so we can supply better prizes and provide more incentive to players, who are not from Berlin and therefore spend Time and Money on the Train/Car. The Old Prizes will basically be multiplied by 1,5 and we will anounce in a few days what they are specifically. The decision was not made easy and we see this as kind of an "experiment", hopefully we will be able to increase attendance numbers.

There is nothing left to say, than: We invite you for a day of fun and games in Berlin and we would love to see you there. Who will be the first MetagameMaster 2016??

While we are all impatiently waiting for Tiggupirus Set Review (btw, tiggu, credit given to you for calling painful truths a great card, i believe it's gonna be a highlander staple for a long while).

the data is of no use. i have been playing chain of vapors in all blue based midrange decks for a long time and nobody has picked it up eventhough its clearly correct and obviously the best card ever in those decks. i wanted to help and support but the data actually goes nowhere.

The vivid highlander scene in Berlin would like to invite you for a day of fun and competition to find out who really rules the meta. We hope Metagame Masters can become Berlin's own tournament series.

We plan for at least 32 players. But we sincerely hope even more players will try to become the first Metagame Master and make their way to Berlin. There's quite a bit of space too. We hope for this to grow and for 64+ players someday as there is room for up to 90 players.

this might sound like a silly topic (if so, there is not enough silly topics here) but i am interested in what you consider to be the best three cards in the format. the cards that you consider "building decks around", cards that you always want, that do the most (clear definition of "best" is what you want it to be). i am interested if there is much overlap across the many different metas and if there is overlap at all. also its kinda fun to ponder about it

I havent seen talk about this card and i was wondering what your experiences with it were so far, is it beatable when bant or rug drops it on turn 2? I mean designwise its obviously very flawed since it takes no skill and doesnt allow interactions. Very good or too good?

thought i start a topic for anybody who has any info/standings/coverage/player attendance on the hl grand prix that is going on in hanau TODAY

maybe someone has some info since there does not seem to be any coverage (unlike last year)

Since we have a topic with the most overrated cards, i thought it is quite interesting what people think are the most underrated cards. Since the cardpool is so huge in HL the chance that some very playable cards are not seeing (much) play is quite high. Some of the cards that i think are strong and should see more play are the following:

Sulfur Elemental: I think this is a very potent creature (not in boros, obviously ), since it carries a decent body, has flash and takes out format staples such as - mindcensor, mother of runes, a small kitchen finks, aven mimeomancer, timely reinforcement tokens, tons of other beaters in boros or white weenie. And it instantly trades with stuff as a 4/4 kotr, a wooly thoctar and more. Its very decent against control too, imagine they drop a jace with force back up turn 4 and brainstorm with it, well sulfur elemental gets that done. VERY good card.

Flame Slash: Flame slash doesnt see much play and i wonder why. Yes it is in red and people are used to being able to shoot somebodys face with red burn. At the same time, creatures get better and better and every deck runs creatures, so a one mana spell, that gets rid of a decent size kotr, tarmogoyf or scavenging ooze is really good. Its kinda the red swords to plowshares. They dont get life..and you dont get to cast it instant speed and get rid of huge monsters (toughness 5+, which there are not many). I love this card.

Faerie Harbinger: Faerie harbinger is a pet card of mine and it has been doing very well ever since i started playing it (a long while ago). You have very capable targets availabe, one for being behind (sower), one for getting an edge (clique), one for finishing them off, remove blocker (pestermite), and one for grindy control mirros (archmage). Plus in this meta, where swords (equipment) are run heavily a 2/2 flash evasion body is very decent. Of course its a little overcosted with 4 mana, but you make sure you put real action on top of your library and most likely have an answer for whatever the board state is.

Well just a few cards, i am sure there is more, maybe you got some suggestions/"pet" cards, too that you wanna share
